there's GOTTA be someone on here willing to help us out - i've PM'd w/ other newbies on here and we just need a little direction

i really want the 2.1 update - i'm psyched and i want to do this

but.. i'm also kinda nervous

i've read this - the part where he says "...you won't be able to install it. Ever."

okay, THAT sorta freaks me out

i think i would opt for the second option on that page - so i downloaded their zip file.. but there's no exe so i'm kinda like.. ??

so i went ahead and tried to do some reasearch on my own - found this and i'm ready to do all that if i need to

i just want to do this the right way, in such a way that if i screw it up i don't REALLY hose myself for ever - and i don't need a lot of bells and whistles

can somebody just point us in the right direction??

The second file on that page is a zip that you flash from recovery. It requires root.

Can't see what the second link is as XDA is still down right now.

it was the sticky page on how to root a sprint hero

i'll get around to rooting a 2.1 ph later

the sun is setting on 1.5 - not much use in learning that

If you need help rooting it let me know, and I can help you with it, I have Damage control's 2.05 and it is Cool as hell.

I was really worrying about rooting and flashing but its alot easier than you think, PM if you need help, its worth it.

Why not just root now? There's no guarantee that we will be able to obtain root on the official 2.1 release. The current 2.1 customs are as complete, if not more complete, than the buggy 1.5 that came on the phone. I've tried most of them and have been on Fresh 2.0d since the moment it came out, with ZERO problems.

welcome... :)

Glad you where able to get it done.
Not to hard.. it does sound harder than it is.. :P

+1

I am so happy I finally rooted. I just did not want to risk screwing up the phone, but if you can follow simple instructions you won't fail. I rooted and put the DamageControl 2.06 on both mine and my wife's Hero.

I've searched and searched but I'm having a different problem while rooting. When I get to step "flash_image recovery recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img" I get the scrolling out of memory error. I then went back and tried the v1.2.3.img it seemed to go through, but when I try to boot to recovery, it hangs on the HTC logo and I have to pull my battery. I don't even know if I'm rooted, but I followed all the steps up till #18... I've stopped here because I don't know what to do now... sucks

Any one knows any videos or easy to follow directions to root a Sprint Hero phone on Mac computers? Seriously, am I the only Mac user around here!? o_O...
