Root Ok, I've had it. Im rooting...again...

Ok so here I am again...rooting...again because im so sick of samsung and all that...

Anywho, I want to go to super clean...I think...

I essentially want everything to be the same as in 2.1, but 2.2-ized. I want everything to be faster and just overall better. But Im still unsure what works and what doesnt. My big issues are the camera, texting and GPS. And naturally all the other aspects like being able to make and take phone calls and listening to music (Through a third party music player). Like I said, everything that I SHOULD be able to do in full blown 2.2 but with out the official 2.2. Im backing up the SD files right now and about to head into odin and clockwork recovery. Is there anything else I need to know?

You know what you're doing :P

I can't recommend anything other than SC 2.9 because I haven't moved up from there yet, but it's working well with the OC/UV kernel that was just released. Getting great battery life too.

Hmmmm I cant seem to find the Clockwork mod package. The link on the XDA page sent me to an error place

Ok so ive rooted, installed clockwork recovery and attempted to flash the full "non-voodoo" of super clean. I go into Rom Manager, click the Zip and it goes to recovery mode. When it does that, it starts to unzip then stops about half way before it says

"E:failed to verify whole-file signiture
E:Signiture verification failed
Installation aborted"

Did I miss something...?

It said the same thing when I cold booted. Im wondering if I screwed up the clockwork installation. I didnt wait for it to reboot on its own. I put the battery back in after about 5ish minutes of nothing.

Ok I got clockwork recovery to work...but now I cant unzip the file...

It says:

Amend scripting (Update-script) is no longer supported...

...Please switch to Edify scripting (updater script and updater binary)to create workin update zip packages
Installation aborted"

Ill be checking back in the morning. I be sleepy. Thank you so much for the help so far!!

Is your CWM orange? If so, that's 3.0 and that won't work. You should odin the CWM in the link above. That's 2.5.1.x and that should fix your problem I think.

Hmmmm Ok. I did that and its still 3.0.0.8. How do I get rid of that version and start using the one above?

You used ROM manager didn't you? DO NOT USE RM boot to recovery and install from there.
RM 3.0 is not compatible with older ROMS scripting which is why you are being told to not use it.

Ok so I go through Odin and have it put clockwork on my phone. Ive done that. Then I go to rom manager, flash it and it still says 3.0.0.8...

Here is what Im doing...

I put the phone into debug mode.

download the clockwork file

turn the phone off and remove the battery

I plug the phone in while holding down the volume button

Go through odin and put the battery back in

It restarts

I flash through Rom Manager and am still at 3.0.0.8...

Even after going through odin and then recovery, im still in the "orange" menus

Odin should reboot your phone from download mode.

With or without the battery? I waited forever after pulling the battery for the phone to restart (They never said to reinstall the battery) and nothing happened. I put the battery back in and it restarted...

They are TWO different recoveries one more time DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER. Hold your power button and select recovery. DO NOT GO TO RECOVERY from RM or boot directly to it. Once there select install zipi from SD -> choose zip from sd card (may not be the wording but its close :p)

Edit: oops you won't be able to hold your power button to get the recovery option until you've flash a new rom, sorry. You'll have to boot into it.

I don't think Odin restarts the phone but it does tell you its done and to unplug it but even that I believe is an option that needs to be checked.

Like above said, DO NOT use rom manager. You pretty much don't need to use Rom Manager for anything except installing BlackHole roms.

Also, don't "install update.zip" either. Once you boot into recovery, the text should be red. That's all you should need to use.

If none of this works, I'd try odin'ing the EB01 image.

Ok im still lost...everything that I try and do, takes me to an orange recovery. Ive re rooted, and re "odined". There is not recovery menu option when I hold the power button and everything just doesnt seem to be working...what am I doing wrong?

Is there a way to remove the "new" clockwork (The orange one) so I can just start from scratch?!

Oh and I dont know if this will help, but:

Firmware Version: 2.1-update 1

Baseband Version: S:i500.04 V.EA28

Kernal Version
2.6.29

And build Number: SCH-I500.EA28

OK I edited my post but I guess it was too late. You cn't use the power button until you have a ROM flashed that supports that. So you will have to boot into recovery.

Hold vol up and down at the same time and press the power button. When you see the Samsung logo you can let go. this should boot you into recovery, it should be RED.

FIRST THING TO DO IS MAKE A BACKUP Choose backup and restore and make a backup

Once done

From the main screen choose "install zip from SD card" press the back button the select "choose zip from SDcard" press back button navigate to the zip you downloaded and select it. Confirm your choose and watch it flash (hopefully it reboots) if not restore your backup.

the touch buttons work in recovery and the menu button is the back button the back button is the enter or select.

Alright!!! Worked this time. I backed it up and unzipped super clean. It said it finished so I rebooted and now its on the honeycomb opening screen. Its been looping for about 3 minutes now...

first time boots can take a little time but if it boot loops go back and make sure you do a "wipe factory reset" in CWR and reboot again.
