So many people posted about having an upgrade coming but, There isn't one yet. He's saying to the Metro people there is this really expensive phone that runs 4G but, it's too expensive so he wants an upgrade on the one he has instead. He was happy with the idea of this phone being 3G instead of the 1x it actually is. I'm sure someone at Metro told him their service is 3G and he didn't know to ask if the phone was 3G compatible. So he's calling them liars. X.x

Thanks for the translation. I didn't know you spoke disgruntled phone owner. Lol

Ah, are you sayin that the Ascend ain't actually capable of 3G service? I was wondering that, because I have service thru Metro and have NEVER seen the 3G indicator on my phone. I called Metro and the lady kindly checked and said that I was indeed in their 3G coverage area, so I thanked her and chalked it up to "shit happens" lol. I have wifi here anyway, so I just use that when I need high speed data connections. But damn, the Ascend won't do 3G, really? LMAO at Metro if that's the case...false advertisin hehehe...

They have 3G service. Most people don't ask is their phone is 3G capable. Instead just asking if the service is. Those are two totally different questions entirely. I have an Ascend and Optimus in my household. Both only show 1x all the time. I wonder if Metro even carries 3G compatible phones. Anyone know? I know they've got 4G now...

Well, my understanding after reviewing the specs on the phone (but before actually buyin it) was that it was indeed capable of 3G. Hence my phone call to Metro asking if I was in a 3G coverage area. I reckoned that since the phone was supposedly capable of it, that the reason I must not have the service is that I simply live outside of a 3G coverage area. Out here, lots of things are slow to come. We don't even have fiber optic phone service yet. Not that I care, I'm moving outta here anyhow as soon as my divorce is filed and finalized, and I get me another truck.

Metro says I am covered by the 3G service. My phone *supposedly* supports it. I don't have it... and I don't really care :-) Sure it would be nice at times, but really, I don't use the data much unless I'm home. And like I said, at home I have the wireless LAN.

NO matter what anyone says, We've got all kinds here. You've got to learn to speak and understand just about E V E R Y T H I N G.

I can also translate what is known as Engrish/Gibberish, thanks to years of forum mod/admin experience. It's a valuable ability, although it will give you a headache half the time to use said ability.

And to address the bit about Metro and 3G, they don't truly have 3G, from all that I've read. What's interesting though, is seeing Cricket users who say their Ascend shows 3G instead of 1X, and have markedly better speeds. This leads me to believe it's a crappy way of Metro being cheap. Technically, metro DOES have 3G, albeit an earlier spec version from what I've researched, and in all honesty you're lucky if you get 2G performance from it.

Does the Ascend then actually support 3G? If so then why isn't the Metro service allowing us to use our Ascends to that capability? I was told by a Metro rep that the Ascend was not 3G supported. X.x I'm actually quite confused now. So it's the Metro service saying they have 3G but, Not actually having it? Either that or they don't actually activate it on our service (Is that possible?)? What is an earlier version of 3G? So not all 3G networks are created equal? This really has me perplexed. Anyone know?

The ascend is 3g compatible. I have cricket and it shows 3g all the time. Metro converted their 3g towers to 4g and is selling a modified 1x connection as 3g. It's not the phone, it's your service.
