I just did a *228 and my phone had an on screen notification(not in the bar) that said something about OTA, and my phone restarted.

It was option 2 and i was on 2.1 V3 Leak.

The new prl or whatever the thing is for curent roaming information is pushed to your phone over the air, hence the OTA message when you update that via *228

Edit: it wasn't the OS that was updated ota, it was your prl. What is your bootloader version?

Yes, the leaks have a different bootloader or hboot(can't remember) than the 1.5

Power off.
Hold down Vol-down and End/Power at the same time until the screen comes alive.


FWIW, the message about "OTA" is exactly what BlueDC2 says, not the OTA-2.1, which is 77 MB in size, takes several minutes to download, and won't do so until you "accept" it.

And that's one of the reasons (I'm sure there are others, too) most of the devs stopped attempting to root the Eris.
