Not comparing to the Captivate. He said 1-2 years old phones. And while the Captivate has those advantages over the iPhone 4, the iPhone 4 also has different advantages over the Captivate.
 
For whatever reason, the iPhone creates fanaticism. The original iPhone was not subsidized and people stood in line to spend $600 on a phone that only did Edge when 3G was most everywhere.

As for getting $700 on eBay - maybe. You still need to pony up the early term fee, add that to your subsidized cost and I don't see the rational.

I don't buy my phones based on resale value; but I do know this. My iPhone 3G will sell for about $180 on eBay and I had it 2 years. My captivate will also sell for about $200 when i do sell it - because it will be contract free. I bought it subsidized, so I come out about even. That is good for me.

As for the iPhone 4; when the iPhone 5 comes out in 9 months, it will make the 4 as popular as the 1st gen is today. Who will want a 4 that is a testimony to design defects - glass on 2 sides and an antenna that wraps the entire exterior? The iPhone 4 is Apples "Vista", but it is all they have until iPhone 5.
 
This post is a perfect example of why I don't hang out here much anymore. These forums are designed for people that want to further their knowledge of the phone, get help with issues, and in general communicate with like minded people.

Instead you get a bunch of turds crying rivers of tears about how they're taking their phone back and the IPhone is SO much better and whatever other nonsense they feel will get them some attention.

I think we (the people that actually like and support the Captivate) should stop responding to these threads. It just enables the rest of the schmucks out there to create more.

To the OP, I don't agree with your rational, and I'm sorry I picked your post to vent, this is not directed to you or anyone else specifically. I still say, if you like the IPhone better, get an IPhone, and then go to the IPhone forums and post, they don't belong here.
