Root On Froyo, rooting soon. Upgrade to GB first?

Hey all! First post. Simple question. Hopefully not totally stupid!

Will need to root soon so I can use the TB as a hotspot for my xoom. I've stayed on Froyo to make sure I'd be able to root, but I see GB is rooted. What should I do, stick with Froyo & then root that later, or should I upgrade to GB now and then root that?

It will probably take me some time to research ROMs and get up the courage to switch, so maybe that's an argument for upgrading first? Otherwise, I'll be stuck on a rooted Froyo for a while. Also, I see rooting GB can preserve your data. Don't know if that's an argument for upgrading first or not. What data is preserved? Apps? Settings?

Thnx!

If I remember correctly, most roms now use the radios that came with the GB update, and if you flash a new Rom, you'll have to flash the new radios.

To me it seems like it would be easier to update then root, but other may have different opinions

yes. defiantely update first. the current rooting method(revolutionary) works just fine on GB,so you will save yourself alot of headache and "what should i do" searching to let it OTA before rooting :)

Oh, ya! That's kind of what I wanted to hear. Thanks all!

... Wow, I just checked and even though I had _specifically_ declined the update, this thing updated itself on 11/01!

That kind of concerns me ...

I'm not noticing a lot (any) improvement in battery life or anything else, I've got to tell you.
