One Click Lag Fix actually works

What lag is this fixing? i.e. what does this actually improve?

I've always noticed a little lag switching between apps, especially heavy ones like Pandora. Sometimes I even get home button shutter when a lot of things are going.

I just applied the OCLF. I'll keep you posted on any real-world improvements I see.

FYI:

Applied it, failed.

Applied it again, phone shut off, booted back up, and went black again. I seriously thought I bricked it. So I just kept pushing power until it booted back up. whew. Don't panic if it takes a couple of tries.

Quadrant 2301. In the real world of usage, media scanner takes about half the time and everything feels zippier, but that could be a placebo affect. I'll report back later. I have 900MB left out of a ~1200MB partition.

btw. This was super easy and it's reversible. I think I owe RyanZA a donation. Does anyone know how to do that? He doesn't have a web site.

Applied it. Phone rebooted, showed the World Phone screen, then went black. After about 30 seconds it booted up proper.

2180 in Quadrant. Nice!

Bringing up folders and switching between screens/apps definitely feels zippier on first use. Will see how it holds up over time.

So with a non-rooted phone, after applying the root part, first step, it tells me to reboot and use the correct key sequence then select a file. What is that correct key sequence?

Donations

Since a lot of people have been asking, I set up a paypal account and got a donate link: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/websc...if%3aNonHosted
Feel free to donate if you want, but I'm happy if you don't donate too.

wow...this really does work extremely well!

i had to pull the battery before it would restart

edit: can't get my third party font to reload. It shows up in settings as selected, but it won't actually change from the default font. I reinstalled, reset to default, and rebooted between each step. I don't really care, but I did drop one hard earned dollar on this font and now I can't use it :(

even still the benefits of this outweigh that cost a hundred times over

I have that problem also. Ryan, developer of this lagfix can't duplicate it. His fonts change. There are others with the font change problem also. If I need to change the font, (not often) I undo the lagfix, change the font, then reapply the lagfix.

Hold down the volume buttons along with the power button until the white ATT screen comes up. Then select the second option, I think it's "reload" or something.

Then it should go on from there.

Hold down both volume kkeys and boot

you come to a black screen, use the volume keys to go up and down

select reinstalled packages with the lock key

I got scared for a bit because the screen was blank after 2 reboots. But the battery removing did the trick after the second try. Will this affect the froyo update? I only have 450 megs now.

no you can update normally. if not, the app has the ability to reverse everything

ok still not getting it into root, but that's ok, I'll take it slow. It takes me a long time to reboot as well. A couple questions:

I also have a custom font, this breaks that guaranteed? (I have to say that is a bummer)

Will there be issues getting updates from Samsung with the new filesystem?

What could be causing the slow card scans? The card or some content on it? Are there certain files that I should avoid putting on the card? The card did come out of my old WinMo phone.

Anyhow props to you guys for making this available, hopefully I will be able to figure it out properly (and still use my font if possible).

This shouldn't interfere with updates, if it does, it's all reversible.

The slow card scans are probably from the file system being what it is + ram

This fixes the file system.

Don't worry about what is on your card

ok, it's running, crossing fingers... how long should it take, it just says it is initializing and I do see the progress bar in the background doing something occasionally.

The screen is supposed to go blank for about a minute, then reboot on it's own.

I've done this fix on 2 phones already with awesome results. Hopefully there are no long term effects which is up for debate.

Then while you're at it, get Rom Manager and make a backup of your phone.

When we look at the Quadrant Pro score (above) we see that the IO section is what is seeing the greatest change. Does anyone have any real world (videos preferably) of activities before and after this change. My concern is that we are just seeing a change that panders to the benchmark rather than viable lag fix.

Hmm well i finally found a video comparing the two, seems pretty significant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10ox35vMS78&feature=youtube_gdata_player

The biggest change I've noticed is when you do a search in the marketplace, or bring up a facebook/twitter app. There is no wait time between searches or bringing up feeds.

ok just got it to do the fix, I had to reboot 2 times before it booted up, pulled the battery. MAYBE the media scan is quicker, but I didn't time itmy font changed to the default though it was still set to my custom one. I will try setting it to default, reboot, then reset again, see what happens. If anyone figures this out please let me know, I will see how much this actually helps the speed and if necessary undo everything.

Hey ima noob at all of this.....i rooted my captivate fine like 3 weeks ago....but now i wanted to do the lag fix.....using the 1 click lag fix.....but when i click to see how much space i have its saying i only 237mb.....where do i delete to get more space????

Huge noob here, I am using this app first to root, but it's not working. I reboot holding the power and volume keys and the phone just restarts as usual..

I gotta say I really do dislike the stock font, I'm switching back.... at least to see if I can, maybe trying the fix again will still let me keep the fonts.

I don't know if I can uninstall the fonts and reinstall them again, maybe that would fix it? It does make me wonder what else may not be 'right' under the hood, fonts are easy to notice but other things could be big surprises later.

You need and external SD card. You can get a 16gb one from Sandisk on Amazon for $28, plenty of room on that to do anything.

Ok, you CAN get your fonts back (yay!), so my guess is something is up with either permissions or the fonts aren't copied correctly every time.

That said, Beautiful Widgets weather didn't loading right, nor Pure Calendar, nor some others....

sor be forewarned, going back may not be so easy. I think I'll get it sorted but maybe being an early user on this fix isn't for everyone.

Edit: Looks like everything is ok, but I will leave this one up to the experts for now, I am hoping to go to 2.2 sometime soon and I would rather just wait, and kill tasks when necessary, this was a bit unnerving :) have fun guys and girls. I do think it improved the overall speed though, from what little I really saw.
