Root One Click Lagfix. Wow.

I was patiently waiting for the next official Froyo update but reading all the comments (here and in other forums), I am considering taking the step...

Two questions (might be a bit off topic):
1/ Once the phone has been rooted, is it possible to easily go back to an official Samsung version?
2/ How do I backup my phone? :D (I know how to backup the text messages)

Once you've Rooted the handset install clockworkmod recovery on there, and Titanium backup and use these to backup your phone and apps.

You can always flash back to stock with Odin.

Thanks

I am just starting to dig into the rooting stuff. Never considered doing it before this fix. What if the rooting goes wrong, before these apps are installed (maybe it is a full part of the rooting process, just asking!)?

Will Samsung be able to see that I rooted my phone if I do that before bringing it to a Samsung Service Center (in case I have any other kind of issues, non-rooting related)?

If you reflash then I don't really think there is any way for them to detect that you had Rooted the handset, just make sure to check your firmware version and get the same one from samsungfirmwares.com

i think dis fix is a bit overrated...all my games nd apps r openin in the jg4 firmware without the fix almos at the same rate as dey were wid da fix inthe jm2......cnt realy c da diff...

I suspect that you may not have applied the fix correctly then, have you done before and after benchmarks in Quadrant, and have you restarted the phone? For me the difference was dramatic.

If its a matter of the fix not being applied correctly then that may be because you don't have the correct busybox version.

^Scary. And I just rooted and applied the fix. I was coming here to boast about my 2251 Quadrant score. Now I'm scared witless. Eep!

One guy has concern, the author has responded and feels its safe, which is backed by the sheer number of us running it without issues. Maybe in the longer term it could cause problems, but we'll be on Froyo in a few weeks in any case.

If you're really that worried you can easily undo with the desktop script "unlagfix me" from the first post of the lagfix 1.0 thread (not sure about undoing V2 if you used that one).

The fact that Chainfire uses a similar fix, and also doesn't raise safety concerns with the first one is reassurance enough for me.

I also applied this fix on Saturday and I definitely do not regret it.
It is an excellent temporary solution until the GS gets Froyo.
My last post was more for information.

I ran this on my girlfriend's Vibrant but her phone went from super fast to PAINFULLY SLOW.

She just got an error this morning that said the lag fix was disabled because there isn't enough "space."

She has 439 MB free on her 2 GB card and over 8 GB free on internal memory (16 GB total).

Any ideas? She's really frustrated and I feel terrible now.

Not sure if this is meant to run on a Vibrant, but I presume you checked that out before installing.

Maybe unlag fix the phone and try again, or try a different lagfix (like Chainfires one, or the Mimocan one). If you unlag fix the phone and its in a reasonable working state you should back it up with clockworkmod recovery so that any problems with lagfixes can be ameliorated easily.

I remember reading about 2 different lag fix files, onje that needed a certain minimum amount of memory due to the partition that occurs. Can she free up some space by un-installing unused or non needed apps?

Works great on my Vibrant. Fast as in instantaneous now. No probs yet.

Yes, you need to root. However, if you use the new update.zip posted in the latter pages of that thread, the entire rooting process is done automatically. All you then have to do is run the script on your phone and you're done.

So this roots it as well? No need to root separately first?

Hi, I see people posting great benchmark numbers from quadrant after applying the lagfix (triple/quadruple increase)

My question: If the lagfix works by caching in RAM, could it be that the numbers get artificially inflated because the benchmark times writes to flash that not are real I/O to flash but are buffered in RAM??

There is definitely an element of 'fooling' the benchmarks, so I'd take them with a grain of salt, except to show you that the fix has been applied. I noted an extremely noticeable speed increase in use, which is what pleased me more than a good quadrant benchmark.

She barely has any apps on there. I'm not sure what's wrong and I feel terrible because she lives far away, so I can't work on it myself.

I will see if she can "unfix" the lag and then re apply another method.

Does she risk bricking the phone if she can't un-fix the lag and applies another lag fix on top?

guys, can anyone here teach me what or where I can find the up and menu buttons? also, do i put the update.zip file in the phone or do I unzip first then put in the phone? sorry, I'm really a noob.

You do NOT unzip the "update.zip"

Put it on your SD card. Boot into recovery mode. You'll see an option to install from SD or install zip from SD...

Or, it might say something like "reinstall packages" and then you select that...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's it.
