I think it depends on which phone you have. For my LG Vortex, 2.2.1 cannot be rooted with either SuperOneClick nor z4root.

Maybe that why this thread is in the Motorola Droid All things root section? Unless it got moved here after your post.

This is a great solution for easy rooting. Once you have installed programs like the moto drivers and android sdk on your desktop you can just sit back and watch the magic.

Both Super One Click and Soup or Root are essentially the same. They both use the RATC attack, but the scripts (as that is all they are) were written by two different people. And actually z4root uses RATC as well, just haven't figured out why some people can't get it to work on FRG83D.

Ultimately though, one sure thing that the one click'ers will NOT do is install a custom recovery image; essential for flashing roms and/or making nandroid backups.
