Root One click root

How long do you think it will be until there is a a one click root method for the D2?

No one really knows....I don't think its going to be anytime soon though. The exploit used for most of the recent 1 click methods has been closed and the current exploit for getting root uses an adb hack so a computer and adb are required.

I'd just muster the courage and root it now. It really isn't all too difficult. I rooted mine right after the original instructions were posted before they refined and clarified everything. It really isn't that hard or time consuming at all. It really is worth the 10 minutes.

Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of feedback for the root that came out... weird. I think I'll wait until there is a 1-click, although if there's no difference I guess it doesn't matter. Hmmmmm... I do want that WIFI 3G sharing, and I have been waiting on the root. SHOOT, what do I have to lose, I am already growing weary of this phone, always freezing up, and I don't have anything stored on it.

Is there a list somewhere of ROMS, Apps, and new User Functions/Control that are now possible with this Root?

you can pretty much control everything if you know what your doing as i understand it.

There is one rom at this time that i'm aware of, Epic Unleashed 1.1 which so far so good.

Here is a great, user-friendly/noob friendly write up of how to root the D2:

Pretty darn hard to go wrong if you just read it through first and follow the directions.

Rather than typing commands, simply copy/paste them from the write-up into your command prompt - makes it really easy to complete.

When I downloaded Droid2Root.Rar it is not a zipped file therefore it is only 1 file not 4 like it states.

As OMJ says above in his repy - RAR is another archive file type, like ZIP...you just need a RAR compatible program to open/view/extract from it.

you need winrar or 7zip to extract the archive

So we should download winrar from the Android Marketplace, or this is all completed through a PC since there is no one-click root yet?

Does a detailed step-by-step exist outlining the root process for Android in general, or the D2 more specifically? :)

Look at my post # 6 above - already posted the "verbose" version of how to root the D2...that link will make it as easy as possible for you, written for noob.

MOST excellent! Thanked on both instances! I'm going to Root my phone, so I can at least use WiFi tethering, but I'm not comfortable installing any ROMs yet until they become more stable - thanks again!!! :)

Did you have to download all the obsolete crap or did you stop it and go? Anyone?

Now get the Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap to set up Clockwork Recovery on your Droid2 and make a backup (nandroid) of your current ROM.

I can't get any commands to work, I get the message command not recognized.

I edited my path and rebooted.
I have the D2 set at pc mode, and I tried it with charge only. With charge only the D2 actually says it's in debugging mode.

I'm running Vista 32 bit.

I extracted the SDK and the motorola drivers, the drivers won't install because I have a higher version already installed that came with the D2. I also have the droid2root files extracted and in the tools folder.

I originally had it in android-sdk-windows but moved it to DROID2 because it was easier to type.

I go to c:\DROID2\tools
type adb devices and I get command not recognized.

Had the same problem when it was in android-sdk-windows.

Bizarre...did you figure it out?

Silly question, but you confirmed that adb.exe is in the Droid2\Tools directory, right?

Did you try the adb push commands as well?

My D2 is now rooted.

A much more easier method done with commands only on the device has been written.

The commands are run after copying the files from droid2root to the sdcard.
It's all command line, easy as can be.
