is that just to root the phone or will that be froyo to? im ready to try this myself

That will only root the phone. That will NOT give you Froyo.
Just make sure you are familiar with the risks of rooting.![]()
Hey Kelmar, you come from the awesome world of rooting the HTC Hero. How does rooting the Epic compare to the Hero in terms of risks?
What "risks" are you referring to?
Both are pretty painless. Epic uses more "one-click" style which I personally am not a fan of.
Rather than running an RUU to return to stock you would need to use ODIN.
Overall, probably about the same. Just a matter of getting used to a new way of doing things is all.

I thought it was about the same but just the way you said it made me think I was missing something.
I'm all geared up. It'll be nice to use a phone that actually responds when I tell it to do something, unlike the Hero where it has to think about it and sometimes just guess on what I'm trying to do![]()

Nah... pretty much the same risks.
Anytime you start tinkering with root you could do something bad to your phone.
Catch 22. Personally, I feel it's worth the risk.![]()

i used this method to root and was wondering with all the talk about the official froyo coming next week will i still get the OTA? i have done nothing else to the phone but just the one click root.

Actually, that's not a bad question. I would like to know as well![]()
I wish someone could explain this step by step for someone who has never rooted a phone before. I looked @ the oneclick instructions on the XDA forum but it seems to me there are some assumed steps that aren't clear to someone who's never done this before. Like if I need to connect my phone to my laptop or put my SD card in my laptop via an adaptor then I need that step listed. Also, instructions in plain English instead of jargon would be incredibly beneficial.
I'm sure y'all will laugh, but for right now the only reason I want to root my phone is so I can take screen caps. I could do this on my Epic with 2.1 but with 2.2 it doesn't work.
TIA!
Droid newb, if you click the link Kelmar posted in the second reply you'll find that 1-2-3 step by step you're looking for. Follow the directions and it should take no more than 5 minutes to root the phone. If you're still having problems, PM me and I'll try to help further. I don't know if the process can be any further simplified than the xda post though.
