Help One M8 doing weird things

just come on here to start a new thread about my wifes phone, and found this so ill add to it and try the suggestions above.
my wifes phone has started waking up for no reason, not recognising earphones plugged in and still playing through speakers, 'jumping back to the top' on pretty much everything, browser, settings, messages etc and also not charging properly. its been charging for 10hrs overnight and this morning its on 95%.

software is stock 5.0.1, sense 6.0
started doing this a week ago, no new apps installed altho a few will have been updated.
no SD card in phone.

just done step 1 which is the hard restart. ill report back on that and try safe mode next.

good thread, thanks

Has anybody figured this one out yet??? This happened to me quite some time ago not too long after buying the phone so I know it's not a problem with old hardwear.
I've done the hard reset
Then I deleted all the cache and data from multiple apps
Then I did a factory reset
Then I installed malwarebytes
It's driving me nuts! The phone is practically unusable...

here are the symptoms:
Browser constantly refreshing.
Typing messages exits me out of the text box and doesn't save what I wrote until I try a dozen times.
I'll answer the phone and it will go straight to speaker.
It won't recognize my charger.
It will randomly enter drive mode.
The screen will rotate in every direction (even upside down) making it impossible to read while lying in bed.
Phone will wake up randomly.
Apps crash constantly.

This is extremely annoying and I really don't want to buy another phone... It's ridiculous that these things should last just one year then be rendered completely useless unless you a some kind of tech wizard.
I feel bad for the poor simpletons that can't figure out these problems and must resort to buying a brand new phone altogether (I may become one of them)

My HTC One M8 has started doing all of these things over the weekend. Noticed this after downloading clash of clans and Plague Inc games. Went in to our local O2 shop last night and described the symptoms. He recommended I back up the device and bring it in and o2 will send the device back for repair. He seemed satisfied it was a software issue. It sounds more like a virus?

Has there been any fix for this? I am loathed to send it away for a week for repair. Should I factory reset first.

I had all of the problems that JohnnyB was talking about. Started yesterday and was doing my head in.

I read somewhere that it could be a problem with the charger/charging port so I blasted both charging port and headphones port with compressed air to clean them. All the problems seem to have gone away. It looks like there was a bit of grit in there which was convincing the phone that it was docking.

That was only about an hour ago so it might come back but it seems to have resolved all of the issues.

No problems with the phone for 24 hours now. Looks like that fixed it.
