One of the best posts I've read on Gingerbread Update on DROIDX

I suspect I'm not quite as impressed with that article... especially considering the majority of his documented issues start with "some users". To me that's not a valid list of "features removed or broken". That's a list of individual complaints that may or may not be experienced by DX users.

I think that article is going to do nothing but scare people off of Gingerbread. I have a couple of minor issues, but overall my phone is much better than it was with Froyo.

Honestly, besides the PITA it was to SBF, and get the rooted GB files onto my phone, I can't say a lot negative about GB. I also can't say it's really any better than Froyo though. In reading the threads on the leaked GB builds that people were running I kept hearing things like "It's a whole new phone", or "Its so much faster". Besides the boost in quadrant scores, I can't really say it's faster or even better really. It is new though, and to many that is better regardless. I haven't had many problems with GB so far, and since I'm running the rooted build have no reason to SBF back to Froyo. So my opinion is pretty neutral on the subject I guess.

Can't please everyone I guess.

In my opinion GB is far better than Froyo. I wouldn't leave it to everyone's opinion though, I would try it for yourself, then make a decision.

CM > all in my opinion, and it isn't even complete. :D

Well if you're in the group of unlucky people (like me) that have to restart their phone every single day because you can't make or receive calls (including emergency calls) and your battery went from 2 days moderate usage to 6 hours, you'd be crying too. Those 2 issues are very serious and have crippled many DX's. After a year, the DX is still positioned comfortably in the top 10 Droids available- which says a lot. But that means squat if Moto doesn't fix GBDX soon.

If your not experiencing issues with GB that doesn't mean that those of us who do have them have been caused by user error or just want to gripe about features. There are plenty of legitimate issues with many people on this update. If 100% of GB users don't have wifi issues, 3g drops, etc. then does that mean there is not an issue with the software?

pffft the OTA rooted ran fine for me, not one issue. Now I'm running CM7 and not looking back.

You all cant keep that nasty 2.2 crap lol

Exactly this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^

They've gotten updates out to their phones quicker than some other phone manufacturers.. I wouldn't exactly call that apethetic. GB works great on my phone, so how can I not say "thank you" to them? Not to mention, my phone has held up great to many drops and smashes due to Moto's solid builds in phones. What else.. superior radios and now unlocking their upcoming phones along with some previously released ones?

That doesn't say much. Most makers have horrible updates that are atrocious in response time.

My Droid X used to reboot itself from time to time with froyo. Haven't had that problem since I got GB. Only thing I noticed that I don't like is a little less battery life. Nothing I can't live with. Are most of the people with all the problems using rooted phones? Mine is still stock for now. Not sure if that means anything. I'm a Linux user so I'm used to some things not working all the time. Over all I'm happy with GB.

My battery life has gotten worse, which I can live with, but I lose my data connection completely every couple days and have to do a battery pull. I never had that happen before GB.

And I did a factory reset + SD format before the update.

Nothing was stated or alluded to that the complaints weren't valid. My issue is with the author creating a generic bucket called "Features broken or removed". The line items in that list are predominently user reported issues. In other words they impact individuals or groups of users. Only a very few of the reported issues impact all Droid X users.

Here's an example of what I mean. If the soft keyboard on your DX lags... but works great on my DX does it mean that:

1. Tthe stock Droid X soft keyboard app is broken?
2. The firmware image on your phone has issues?
3. The phone hardware itself has issues?
4. Or maybe it's a combination of a whole lot of unrelated issues that causes it to work on my phone but not on your phone?

The challenge is, at the moment, that we simply don't know which of these options is the correct one. By generalizing, the author makes the decision for us that option 1 is the correct choice... when there currently is no evidence to substantiate his claim.

See what I'm saying WW?

This is great and all, but when will Motorola, Verizon, & Google read it so that they can fix some of the problems already?!
