Root One S good for app development/rooting?

I'm seriously considering on purchasing the HTC One S. What I like most about it is the design and simple look, plus specs wise it's pretty good. But I'm wondering whether I'd be able to experiment with app development and this whole rooting business with the One S? Are there limitations and the likes? Can I erase all the stock apps already on there?

I know that the Galaxy Nexus is the best out there for these kind of things but I just don't like the large size plus the 5mp camera.

As things stand it is rootable but not s-off yet. There is quite a large (and growing) developers community.

If you root you can remove stock apps.
