I've been a long time Dropbox user but I'm now switching to Sugarsync.

I love the ability to rightclick a folder anywhere on the system and tell it to sync. The android picture sync is awesome.

I just found Secretsync which is a client side encryption for both Dropbox and Sugarsync. I'm loving that. It's free for up to two gigs of data. I was using Windows Live Mesh to sync specific files because I didn't want to do symlinks with Dropbox AND I was using Dropbox. Now that I've moved to Sugarsync, I just use the one program. It's great for save games between my laptop and desktop, encrypted work files (via Secretsync) and I can email files to my account if I'm out and want to review them later.

I can't speak highly enough about sugarsync since they've upped their starting quota, come out with the Android client and made the referral space unlimited.

if you have anything important on your pc (like photos or a resume) then you really should be using dropbox!

It sounds like LAN sync is automatic,if you have other computers on the you LAN at installation time of dropbox, see their help page. I'd put the link in but this is my first posting.

I use both Dropbox and Sugarsync on my tablet. Dropbox is nice and fast and immediate, and allows you to keep certain files synced whether they are modified from Dropbox or by an app directly, while Sugarsync is good for folder sharing and app backup.

Thanks guys, I was looking for a referral link to SugarSync. I clicked on yours Tabarnak ;-)

It's cool to see that SugarSync also give you extra space for downloading the app etc (just like Dropbox).

I'm already a Dropbox user, but may move fully to SugarSync due to the fact you can sync files from computers to local storage on Android; pretty useful!

I've used Dropbox for 2 years now and it has been the one I've recommended to friends and family. If you need a quick and user friendly way to sync files then Dropbox is it.

The only thing that bothers me about dropbox is that it's a little to user friendly. Sometimes when a company focuses on the "every man" they neglect those who are bit techy and that's true of drop box. I use my computer a lot, I have a droid phone and two droid tablets. I have files in folders all over the place and dropbox's simplistic single folder sync structure just doesn't accommodate the way I use my pc.

So now I'm using both db and sugar. I'm new to sugar, in fact I just signed up using one of the links provided above, so I can't critique their service. If everything with sugar goes as advertised then this for me means no more moving my files around just to get them synced.


In short if you want one area of your pc set aside for syncing and backup where you can just toss files in and walk away then I recommend dropbox. If you have a hectic non-organized life and a pc to match with the need for flexible folder spanning syncing then Sugar appear to be where it's at. Both options are free so there's no harm in signing up for both, trying them yourself, and then ditch the one that doesn't fit your needs.
