Only has 3 metal hinges?

I just got my used desire Z, and I was happy to find it in flawless mint condition as far as I can tell. There is one odd thing however, there are only 3 metal hinges. Are there supposed to be 4? There appears to be a place for the fourth hinge.

The hinges seems sturdy enough, but I wonder if the lack of a fourth hinge could affect its long term durability.

As far as I can tell, there's no provision for a fourth hinge. But as you've observed, it performs really well as it is.

I think that 2 are for the actual support/connection and the third that seems out of place is for the trackpad input. Only guessing because it seems logical, due to it's position and such.

The supports are only for the hinge mechanism. The ribbon cable provides the connection between the two screens. You need two for support and the third to prevent twisting of the two halves as you open and close the keyboard.
