Only update aps with Wifi?

Ive never run into this problem before, but on my Droid 3, whenever it informs me I have aps to update, when I hit update all like I used to on the Droid 2, it keeps them in paused mode, saying size needs wifi to update. I don't ever use wifi, and don't see the need since everything runs fine on regular G3. I can't get a wifi connection at work, and don't have wifi at home, so am I doing something wrong? Is this a glitch?

Any help is appreciated. Also, what is the benefit of wifi? Ive never understood it on the phone since I always get regular service everywhere.

Ha, I got that once also when I was using the amazon app store to get a free game. Didn't know if it was amazon specific or not so I just thought nothing of it. I will look into it and get back to you.

Many thanks. I tried all day to fix it, but all I did was kill my battery and get more frustrated. I feel like I have something set wrong, as I have never needed wifi to download an app, and was doing so Saturday. All of a sudden it needs wifi for everything. Frustrating.

Don't know how useful this is, but if you go to settings, battery, data saver, make sure it is turned off. Mine was turned off by default I think, so I don't know why yours would be on. Worth a look though. Testing a large download on 3g to see what happens at the moment.

Edit: So it successfully downloaded for me without trouble straight from the market. I'm going to try it with data saver turned on now.

Yup, it worked. I can not thank you enough. I just wasted 2 hours on the phone with Verizon tech support, who had me do the usual pull the battery, try all these settings, and eventually wipe the phone back to the factory settings, but with no luck. They even ordered a new phone for me to pick up at a local location, but looks like I won't have to now, which makes me very, very happy.
