Help Open Car Dock with specific Bluetooth Connection?

155

Newbie
My Nexus One's Car Dock App had a setting that activated car dock mode automatically when my phone connected to my car's bluetooth.

I can't even find the Car Dock app on my Photon. Is it possible to find the car dock app and set the car dock app to do this just like on my Nexus One?

If you get the motorola specific dock, it boots the car dock automatically. Not exactly sure where the actual app is (or if it's just integrated into the system somewhere) because I tried to find it also. I don't even use it really, so I was actually wishing there was a way to de-activate it so that it wouldn't activate immediately.

Not sure if you can set it to activate when connected to bluetooth though.

Have you had any luck with this? I would love this feature as well. I would be happy with being able to start the Car Dock App manually... any idea how to do that?

LauncherPro can start it manually. long-press on the desktop and create a shortcut. Then choose "Activity". Open the CarDock group, then select the first one on the list.

You could also use Tasker to start the car dock app when a Bluetooth device is connected; you won't be able to choose the specific device, though. It would just run your script whenever any Bluetooth device connects.

In fact, you could create a Tasker script to automatically enable BlueTooth and WiFi when the phone is plugged in and charging; this could allow you to automatically use WiFi at home (for things like downloading podcasts, caching Slacker, etc) and Bluetooth in the car while still saving power when you're portable.

According to Engadget in their review, they said with the kickstand open, you could launch the cardock app with Any Cut. any suggestions on how to do that would be welcome. I would really like to use it with rental cars.

I hate to derail this thread from the original question, but in the interest of not starting a new thread, does anybody know if the Car Dock App can be disabled from starting when connected to the dock? I honestly have no purpose for the Car Dock homescreens at all, based on how my phone is set up and using LauncherPro Plus. I'm figuring this might be a scenario where rooting my phone to disable the CarDock's auto launch might be the only answer. I tried changing the settings in the app, when it was docked, but it didn't have an option to do that.

Thanks for pointing this out Mike, I tried it out and it works.
Here are the steps:

1. Download "Any Cut" by JEFF HAMILTON off of the Android Market.
2. Open Any Cut and select "New Shortcut".
3. Select "Activity".
4. Scroll down the list and select the first appearance of "CarDock".
5. Choose the name of your new shortcut.
6. Done, your new CarDock shortcut has now been added to your homescreen.

To use the CarDock app you must have your kickstand enabled/opened.

Again, thanks a lot for pointing this out. Ever since I got my Motorola Photon 4g I've been on the lookout to find out how to open the CarDock app without having to buy Motorola's physical car dock.
