Open Developer Options

The developer mode enable seems to be similar to other 4.3+ Android phones so that's no news. However, the high performance option seems interesting. Especially for something like emulation which is very CPU intense.

I wonder if the VZW version would have it.
 
Maybe someone from Sprint that has not done the update can chime in. That option may not have been on Sprint either before we got an OTA the other day

It was on the Sprint version from day one. The first thing I did was activate developer options out of habit and saw it there.
 
I haven't, but that's because some of the apps I have aren't compatible with it, namely Whatsapp. That and the fact that this phone is so fast I doubt I would notice any difference

I switched over to ART before loading up most of my apps & having a buggy issue w/SWIFT KEY (numbers are entered multiple times per keystroke).

Also having an issue w/an app not loading at all (AUTOMATIC CACHE CLEANER).

Gonna switch back to DALVIK & will post w/results.*

*Switching over from DALVIK to ART took quite a bit longer than it did on my GPE MOTO G.Might wanna budget about 20-30 minutes for the transition if you're time crunched.

That's true that ART don't work with some apps such as ROM toolbox . it don't work for the es rootexplorer . the paid version .

Problem when you switch back my device gave me a pop up of every app saying it forceclose I had to do a FDR to clear . so beware of this .on some devices.
 
Some interesting observations:

Switched to DALVIK & managed to load & run AUTOMATIC CACHE CLEANER,no issues.
Switched back again to ART & found same app to be completely uninstalled from my device.(Hadn't seen that on my GPE MOTO G).Talk about coughing up the proverbial hairball.... :puke: :D

Still have the same issues w/SWIFT KEY (strange number input issues). Could be the site that I was entering acct # information with,as it acted exactly the same w/all other variables identical.

Perhaps the SWIFT KEY issue is a bug that the developer needs to take a look at,as my other KIT KAT devices don't have this issue.

a BTW:

Might wanna place your phone next to a fan when switching from DALVIK to ART,the back of the phone gets quite warm.
Probably not enough to cause any harm,but,if repeated numerous times,could possibly zap a little life out of the battery.No one wants that.

Also,when switching from ART to DALVIK,this isn't necessary,it only takes about 3-5 minutes,vs DALVIK to ART's 20-30+ minute switch time.

I have been running ART since the day the phone came out on ATT. No problems, none of the apps I currently use have problems with it either, but it's been very stable for me. And the "High performance mode" for the CPU, if what I heard before is correct, that is just used during benchmarks. It was HTC's way of "inflating" benchmarks, where if the phone knows a benchmark is being run, it allows the CPU to run at a higher frequency. Turning it off will only make it to where it will use its stock frequencies during benchmarks.
 
The "High Performance Mode" is nowhere to be found on the T-MOBILE variant (AFAICT).

TBH,I'm kinda glad it isn't,as I'd like a bit more control over the setting,other than on/off.

If I feel the need for speed,I'll check out the ATR section in the M8 forum.
 
I've tried ART but it caused issues when rebooting the phone. It wouldn't shut down properly either.
 
Is there a way to access the developer options without connecting to a computer? Also does anyone know if High performance mode automatically enables when higher CPU is necessary or only when enabled?
 
No the CPU wont activate if its a higher value . the only way would be to enable the development section .
 
Sure it is.. I've had mine since I got my phone.. I've done that with all my android phones over the yrs..but it's useless
 
Yeah I think it's with all android phones.. I e done that with my g3 and g4 too.... But it's pointless.. just makes all this weird shit happen
