Help Open lock symbol when booting

Hi,

my phone just came back from repair and when I boot it I can see an open lock symbol under the google logo. Does this mean anything?

If I setup my system now and decide to re-lock the bootloader later will this delete my data then?

Yes. The act of unlocking or locking the bootloader wipes the phone.
So, if you want to lock it, do it before putting anything on.

However, there's no need to really lock it.

Agreed. In fact, if you ever had the inkling of installing a custom ROM, part of your work to do so has already been done. If you want to roll with stock then that's cool too, you can just leave it as is. No reason to lock it really.

1. What on earth was wrong with your phone that they had to unlock it to fix? lol

2. If you have any more problems with it and you send it back and they see it has an unlocked bootloader it may raise some eyebrows and they may insist that YOU broke your phone and void it...!!!

I just got a refurbished phone through Best Buy Geek Squad Protection Plan and it came unlocked as well. Before I sent it in my phone was unlocked and rooted so I asked them if that mattered and they told me that they won't even look at it when I send it in.

I read that they do this to re-install the original Android version (for what reason ever...)

I had the same concerns. That's why I talked to Amazon and they made a note to the file saying that it was unlocked during repair. However, they said it's fine if I lock it again.
