Help Operating System Not Updating

steiney

Newbie
Hello All!

My girlfriend and I have the exact same phone (Galaxy S2 Epic Touch 4G) on the same carrier (Sprint). About three days ago, her phone updated it's Operating System overnight. When we woke up, hers was updated and mine was not. It been three days now and my OS still has not updated.

Does anyone know why or have any ideas? I've gone into the setting and manually checked for a software update.

Thanks in advance,

steiney

Okay, a little more information:

I just checked the version on my phone and it's 2.3.6! I looked up the version history on Wikipedia and, the current one is 4.0.4, which is what my girlfriends phone now is, except that 4.0.4 was released March 29th, 2012, so I don't know why her phone would have waited until now to update.

I'm completely confused at this point. I keep wondering if her phone didn't actually update, and just changed appearance, but there are several new features that she didn't have before, so I'm pretty sure it updated.

There is always a gap between an OS being released and it being available for phones. First it has to be modified by the manufacturer and after that by the carrier. My wife got her FroYo update a full week before I got mine (both phones were brought at the same time).

My Xoom only recently got ICS even though Motorola started the rollout months ago (I had a 3G model so Verizon had to work on it as well, whereas the WiFi only models got it several months earlier).

Give it a week and see what happens...

Hey, Thanks for the info. That's frustrating. The update looks much better than the current version and I'm really anxious to get it. Oh well. I guess I'll just have to wait.

We've since broken up. The break up was solely in relation to the operating system update. I can't have her seeing other operating systems, and bringing them into my home! The jealousy is just too much.

Updates are usually sent to devices gradually to avoid overloading servers or tech support services. Your device IMEI number probably is what determines when the update is made available. Just wait for it.

The only way my marriage will survive me getting an S3 while the wife stays on an original Incredible is if I buy her a Nexus 7 for her birthday - otherwise there's gonna be hell to pay :D

Crashdamage: Thanks for the info. Interesting. I never would have guessed. I'll just have to sit tight for the time being.

Rachel_Ambler: Haha! Yep, if the missus isn't happy, you won't be happy.

p.s. Just another question to everyone/anyone: So there's definitely no way to force the update?

To try and force the update go to: Settings > About phone > Software updates. Might work. Well, probably not but only takes a few seconds to try.
