Opinions from those that went from Droid Incredible to the Maxx

Hey Smurfe I found this thread. It works...yahoooo!!! At least they said it did.

http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-razr-maxx/500793-phone-tv-display.html

I saw that to. I have to get ahold of my old partner and try the cable he bought for his Droix X and see if this indeed works. We never could get anything other than video shot with the camera to stream onto the TV. Of course, it could of been operator error as well. If this is working now, I'm totally satisfied with this device.

The Incredible does have Gorilla Glass.

It does?!? Sorry to be off-topic here, but I have never, ever been able to find that. This topic was hotly debated in the Incredible forums, and the conclusion was that it didn't have it. Gorilla Glass would be a HUGE selling point, and for it NOT to be listed in the Incredible's official specs ANYWHERE is a dead giveaway that it just does not have it. So if you can find that in an official spec somewhere, and not from some poster's so-called "reply from an HTC rep" please let me know. Much thanks!

:) Resume topic!

It's right on Corning's website. HTC's list of devices with Gorilla Glass. I've dropped my Incredible numerous times and don't use a case or screen protector. I assumed it had one tough screen but didn't realize until recently that it had Gorilla Glass.

My biggest gripe with the dinc is the "phone is low on space" message. I do not have that many apps! I have read all the "fixes" on the forums and nothing really works. So I hope the MAXX will eliminate that problem. Anybody here have a MAXX with lots and lots of apps on it?

Had Inc, then Inc2, now Droid Max. Each time I said to myself "best phone I ever owned..."

After getting use to it, no going back. Everything works better, and the Apps that come with it work better. Calender, Office docs, messaging... everything... but the wife does miss being able to launch straight to dialer like on the HTC Sense

The Incredible does have Gorilla Glass.

This is correct according to Cornings website. http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/full-products-list

First - on the Dinc & Gorilla Glass debate - I wonder if this was changed mid-run? Remember, the original Dinc's had AMOLED screens - then due to a shortage, they moved to LCDs. I wonder if Gorilla Glass came in the second iteration - because I had the AMOLED version and broke my screen (drops) twice. If that was Gorilla Glass, I hope to hell Gorilla Glass 2 is a LOT better!

Now - as a Dinc user from the first week it was available until yesterday, I have to say I was hesitant about moving from an HTC device to the Maxx. While I liked Sense (I was rooted and running a Nils Business Gingersense) - in the end, I ended up always moving away from Sense and using either Launcher Pro (at first) or Go Launcher (more recently). I liked having more flexibility than having the custom widgets in the end. And now, you can get 3rd party widgets that pretty well mimic the Sense versions. (Launcher Pro was great until he stopped supporting it :( )

Anyway - I stayed up late last night loading up my DRM (not sure if that's the "official" acronym for the Droid RAZR Maxx or not - I kinda like DRX or DRMX), and tweaking the U/I and settings. I did like some of the Moto Blur widgets - but I couldn't get use to now having that scrolling bottom dock that I've had with other launchers, and went back to something familiar: Go Launcher Pro Ex. I may give Moto's U/I a shot again later, but for now, I want familiarity and stability.

I haven't really used it enough to give it a proper review. I can tell you initially:

  • LOVE the screen size and brightness. Wow!
  • Wish the screen was higher resolution vs. just larger icons and widgets than I had on the Dinc
  • Not use to the button placement yet, but I think I will better appreciate all the buttons being together on the right
  • I thought locating the USB/charger port on the Dinc on the bottom left was a design flaw. I'm already disliking the top connection on the DRM even more than the Dinc. Why not the bottom? Did Apple patent that too? It's too easy and makes sense.
  • I miss the customization of the slide-down top bar I had in Nils Gingersense - so I'm looking forward to some custom ROMs.
  • Battery life reporting - Why does it ONLY seem to report in 10% increments??? In the end, I guess it doesn't matter as long as it's accurate. But I personally like knowing if I'm at 67% vs. 61%. It will simply report 60% until it's at 59%, at which point it will report 50%. :(
  • Built in flashlight app doesn't utilize LED. I mean, come on, haven't we figured out that's better than turning the screen white yet? ;)
  • It's DEFINITELY snappier! Wow. Boot time - incredible! Downloads over 4G LTE are blowing me away. Perhaps streaming media is finally ready for primetime. Just glad I was grandfathered into my old "Unlimited Data" plan.
  • Yeah... going to have to get use to "menu" and "home" soft keys being reversed too.
  • LOVE that Swype is a built-in alternate keyboard!!!! YAY!!!!
  • That said, wider profile of the DRM and the larger screen combine to make one-handed Swyping with thumb while holding phone in same hand more difficult. This is something I had no trouble with on the DINC.
  • Someone said something earlier about Facebook profile photos integrating with their contact list on the DINC. It appears to me that the DRM does the same thing. All my contacts FB profile pics are connected. ???
  • Many of the Switch Pro widgets I've used on the DINC don't work on the DRM.
  • Have yet to get the Root script to work on my Mac - which I'm missing right now because I need to access Titanium Backup.
  • Camera is FAST
  • Camera is NOT as good as on DINC. Mind you - it's been ONE DAY. I like the video camera and the ability to zoom while recording. But on stills, I was always confident of the picture I took because I could tap the screen and focus then take the shot. Not so on the DRM. You can tap to focus but not to take pic. You have to go to dedicated snap button after focusing, which could change your focus (and usually does.) AND, it would show you a still of the photo you just took after you took it. Now it takes pictures so fast, there is no followup showing the image you just took (or chance to keep or delete it), and I'm ending up with more blurry photos. Hopefully, this can be fixed either through software updates or 3rd party cameras.
  • Can't comment too much on battery life. I have good 4G in my area, and it hasn't dropped below 60%. I also ALWAYS plug in when I'm in the car.
  • For anyone using an alternate launcher, I've found 4 rows wide by 6 rows high a better fit for larger widgets, giving you better scale and more screen real estate to work with. Beautiful Home Weather was just too stretched out at 4x4 or 4x5.

Again - all early initial feedback without having read much feedback from others yet on possibile solutions to issues I've raised. So take it for what it is. Overall though, I'm pretty sure if the battery holds up and I don't get low-memory issues, I'm going to love this phone!

In my opinion there is no comparison between Droid incredible and Droid Razr Maxx.Droid Razr Maxx is 100times better than Droid Incredible

battery circle on android market solves that

DInc has always had Gorilla Glass, but GG is only scratch-resistant, not shatter-proof.

I had the same issue, but the Maxx has had no problems with it. I was always told that was an issue which was limited to the Incredible, and that appears to be correct.

Just upgraded from the Dinc to the Maxx. A few comments:

1. Motoblur is NOT as useful or polished as HTC sense. For example, in HTC you can control how the contact name displays: John Smith or Smith, John or Giantcorp. Moto does not allow that. They're all John Smith. HTC widgets are also slicker with much better eye candy than Moto's.

2. Moto keyboard is not as polished as HTC's. It does have some plusses, in terms of highlighting misspelled words and allowing easy correction.

3. I like HTC's text message app better. Ditto the email app.

4. I am still getting used to the huge size. It is hard to carry around in a holster. I'm also still trying to find a holster I like.

HOWEVER

MUCH faster than the Incredible. Not just the data, but also the processor. MUCH, MUCH better battery life despite being 4g. This is a true all-day-and-more phone. No more "Low on Space" errors.

Just switched as well. Haven't played around enough to be able to review it, but I do have a question. Like the post above me I'm not a huge fan of the DRM's texting app, I loved the DINC because it would just auto-correct, but the Maxx won't, it'll just put whatever I type (and seriously, how does it think the first suggestion for "lpl" should be "please"?). I was wondering if there are any texting apps that would work better? I know there are a ton of "alternative" apps that give you your own number, or only work with other app users, etc. I'm just looking for an app that will let me text contacts from my phone, that has a better auto-correct feature than the Maxx. Also, why the hell can't you hold down the buttons to get alternative symbols? I'm a stickler for grammar and having to switch screens to add a ? or a , is kind of annoying lol.

Try Go SMS pro, free in the market. Very customizable texting app. For a keyboard similar to the HTC one, try Multi-Ling from market. Also could use Swype and just turn off the swiping...

For item #2. Get Smart Keyboard Pro from the Marketplace. It's a few bucks but the BEST keyboard. It has the best dictionary and auto correction. All the others are frustrating to correct misspelled words. I've tried Swift Key (best word prediction), Slide It, Swype, Go Keyboard, and Touchpal. I keep coming back to Smart Keyboard Pro. The 'best' keyboard would combine Smart Keyboard Pro with Swift Key's predictions and Swype's tracebility. I can only dream.

For item #3. Use GO SMS. It's free. I like it better than Handcent or Stock on my Droid Incredible.

Hey guys, I just downloaded Go SMS Pro, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to adjust the keyboard. I still can't make it so pressing and holding on letters inputs a counterpart symbol. Could you guys let me know where to go?

Go SMS pro still uses whichever keyboard you are defaulted to. You can use the Swype keyboard to do what you are asking about. Hold down in a text input window until a menu pops up. Select input method, then Swype. It will change the keyboard. You can also try Multi-Ling or other keyboards from the market.

I know many that switched from the Incredible to the Maxx that prefer the HTC keyboard...try some others and you will find one you may like better than the default Moto keyboard.

I really like Swift Key X keyboard for text predictions. It learns from your previous texts and gmail, if you let it, and can almost read your mind. It's $3.99 but they have a free version for 30 days trial... Also like handcent for texting.
Someone else suggested smart keyboard, which I liked, too, but my preference is swift key. I tried Go SMS for texting, and still like handcent, but they are very similar.
