Opinions from those that went from Droid Incredible to the Maxx

Just upgraded from a DINC to the Maxx this weekend before the extra $30 upgrade fee kicked in (Wife upgraded to iPhone 4S). Have not had a lot of time with it yet, but here are my comments.

1. FB photos in contacts? I don't see them in my contact list. I maintain my contacts on google (gmail). Don't know if that makes a difference. Am I missing some setting somewhere?

2. GPS - On the DINC I left on the goolge location services. I'd turn on GPS when I needed it and it worked. With the Maxx, I find I have to turn off the google location service when using GPS. Otherwise, GPS will not lock on the satellites. Others have reported this in a couple of other threads here.

3. Like others, I also keep going for the power button on the top. Same thing with the home screen button. It will just take some getting used to. No big deal.

4. Only made a couple of calls so far. Audio call quality is excellent. I may just finally get rid of my land line (yeah, I'm an old f@rt).

5. I miss the clock/weather widget. I had it split into two separate widgets rather than one big one. I did find a nice 1x2 weather widget in the phone. I think it came with the phone and was not part of some other app I installed. Someone else here mentioned an app that might have something similar. I like the app called 1Weather although dislike the widget is has.

6. I also would prefer the battery monitor to show battery remaining in 1% increments rather than 10% increments. Again, someone here mentioned an app that might have that feature so I'll have to try that.

In summary, I'm very pleased with the Maxx. I've ordered the Seidio surface case and holster (Had the Seidio Innocase on the DINC and I think this is the same thing) and an HDMI cable to play with video on my TV.

1. Found a solution. Open up the "My Accounts" app. Add your facebook account. Wait a few minutes for it to sync with FB. This apprently has nothing to do with any FB app you may also have.

2. Tried GPS again last night and it worked with google location service enabled. Don't know what I was doing wrong. Also, it looks like you can turn on GPS but it really isn't used until you bring up an app that uses it. I tuned it on but no GPS icon appeared in the status bar. I open an app that uses GPS and within a second or two the icon appeared. When I closed the app, the icon disappeared. Each time I open an app that uses GPS (maps, exercise tracker, gps test, etc) it only took a couple of seconds for it to lock in on the satellites, even if I had to turn on GPS from within the app. Impressive!

5&6. Nice weather app called BeWeather. It has a selection of widgets and the app itself is nice. Another app called Digital Clock Widget. Between these two, I have a similar setup as I did on my DINC for a 1x2 clock widget and a 1x2 weather widget at the top of my main home screen. Another app called Battery Circle gives a 1% resolution icon in the status bar.

I also upgraded from the DINC to the Maxx but have a couple of issues, which from reading the forums don't seem common. I loved being able to be on a call and surf the web for something at the same time and this does not work for me when using 3G. This seems like a really huge flaw so I'm wondering if that is normal for the Maxx? Also my Android Market app is just that, it takes me to the old Android Market (like super old before it had the upgrade to the new layout). I have tried rebooting, looking in the settings and still no upgrade. I believe both these issues are out of the norm (I hope) and can be resolved but I have yet to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. I think I'm gonna call Verizon in the morning though.

Try going into the market app under apps and clearing all data and that and see if that helps

Any new comments from incredible Switchers? I'm still on the fence.....

I got my new Razr Maxx a week ago. Amazingly fast and awesome screen. I couldn't see my HTC Droid Incredible's screen in the sunlight now with the Razr Maxx it's better viewing in bright light. Battery life is fine but I knew that I wouldn't get days of battery life as I do put my phone through medium to high use everyday. From the stats I am getting from Battery Left PRO app, I should get about 27 hours of use by the way I am using the phone. I've got a Morphie Powerpack just in case and of course car adapter and AC adapter with me as I'm always on the road. I'm glad that I am grandfathered in the unlimited data use plan:D. I've been burning up some data and I'm definitely getting my moneys worth.

The included 16 gig micro SD card capacity isn't enough for me. I just ordered a new Lexar High Speed MicroSDHC 32 GB Class 10 Flash Memory Card from Amazon. That should work out fine as I do take a lot of photos and I like to carry all my music with me. I wish the bloatware wasn't as prevalent on the phone. I won't root though as I've been there and done that with my Incredible but I went back to factory settings as I realized I just like it that way. I like screen protectors so that is installed as with a case (Otterbox Defender case).

As others has mentioned, I have to get used to with the controls being different from the HTC Droid Incredible. Setting up the Razr Maxx was so simple and fast since Google is so tightly integrated with Android. Email and text messaging app set up was very straightforward. I just use the standard email app on the Maxx and I like Handcent for my text app. All contacts on Google and Verizon came over to the phone without any issues and I just restored my Handcent settings backup. Tweaking the home screens are basic with Android. After playing with the Razr Maxx the first couple days, I'm happy with the results and the performance. I had some issue with the audio but after reading a few posts here and adjusting the phone settings and audio apps the sound from the phone's speaker is fine.

BTW, I've always wanted to have a phone with a front facing video camera. It's easier to take photos with my friends. I am also stoked that I can do Skype video conferencing. Camera is much faster in focusing than what I experienced with my HTC Droid Incredible. I'm sure that there will be the next big thing in android phones coming in the near future but for now my new Razr Maxx is outstanding and will carry me over to the next smartphone after my contract is up.

If you guys want a clock/weather widget similar to HTC's - Try Beautiful Widgets in the play store. Several customizable options!

I just switched over from the Incredible. I'm very pleased with the upgrade.

It's all been said before on this thread. This is a huge improvement. I could only use about 7 of my favorite apps on a regular basis, any more than that and I would get the dreaded low memory warning. Between that and the dismal battery I hope I don't have to use that phone again. The cherry on top for me is having 4G capacity. Where I'm at I get speeds about ten times better than with 3G. Its faster than my home connection from At&T. Being grandfathered in for unlimited is great.

Thanks to all of the previous posters for easing my concerns before the switch :)

  1. Reversed home/menu buttons - this has to be the most frustrating thing for me. I am forever hitting home when I want to hit menu. Interestingly enough, the power button moving to the right from the top hasn't given me much trouble.

how did you do this?

how did you do this?

I didn't reverse them. I was complaining about them being in different positions. I have had the phone a month and I still hit the wrong one at least once a day. Grrr. Love the phone otherwise.

Me too - the wifi indicator in my home is about 2 bars less than with my old DINC (HTC Incredible 1). I read in another thread a claim that the indicator is off, but receiver sensitivity is just as good. I don't think that's the case. I'm worried that this one issue may require me to return the phone.

My biggest gripe with the dinc is the "phone is low on space" message. I do not have that many apps! I have read all the "fixes" on the forums and nothing really works. So I hope the MAXX will eliminate that problem. Anybody here have a MAXX with lots and lots of apps on it?

I have to admit that this is the one thing that I really enjoy about the Maxx over the Dinc - i have about 6K contacts (in outlook) which took up anywhere between 40-80mb depending upon whether they were also synced to Gmail - this always got me locked up when i installed too many apps. (even after rooting and trying a couple of ROMS that attempted to resolve this issue). I don't have this problem with the Maxx and find it a pleasureable experience.

That said, i do prefer the height/width dimensions of the Dinc over the Maxx - i don't need a larger screen since i use a Asus tab, but do also appreciate the thinner depth of the Maxx over the Dinc

So to anyone out there who still has their Incredible and is wondering what the next best device out there is - look no further. The Maxx has it all!

Still have my incredible but on its last legs, played with the Max in the VZ store this morning but going to wait and take a look at the INC 4G first before I pull the trigger on the upgrade, also heard Max HD is hitting June or July, that's why the price drop to $199 on the Max. Heard while battery on new Inc 4G is only 1700, the new processor while very fast also helps battery as the new HTC one with a smaller battery, bigger screen and faster processor is getting good battery results. I really like HTC phones as both my daughter and I have one, wife has iPhone. The new Inc 4G also has an unlocked boot loader which is nice as I do a lot of mods to my phone. Daughter had the Samsung Fascinate originally and it was a POS as she went thru 3 before I bought her a used Inc which has been great....Max is a darn nice phone though...GLTA!

... Also, why the hell can't you hold down the buttons to get alternative symbols? I'm a stickler for grammar and having to switch screens to add a ? or a , is kind of annoying lol.
This drove me nuts too, but when I switched to the swype keyboard, then I didn't have to switch screens for the symbols. Also, with swype on, you don't have to use it - you can still type normal but use swype sometimes. Works great!!!

Picked up a MAXX the other day. Love everything but the camera. Hopefully they will have an update to make indoor photos better? I installed all my apps and it hasn't slowed at all. I miss the trackball a little bit.

Three months in, and I am very used to the Maxx...but still miss the Dinc. Crazy, but sometimes I still hit the home button while looking for the trackball as my camera shutter...and the HTC camera software was the best, really.

Just switched from the Incredible to the Razr Maxx 2 days ago. I loved my Incredible and had no intention of moving on, but the low storage issue and the phone becoming posessed a little bit after the gingerbread update pushed me a bit, as did Verizon's decision to do away with unlimited data later this summer. I was able to upgrade and keep my old plan this time at least.

One thing I don't like about the Maxx camera is that you have to complete multiple steps after taking a picture to actually view it. I like to see it right away to know if adjustments need to be made quickly.

As many of you have said, home/menu is annoying. I also cant seem to figure out how to turn the ringer completely off using the side volume button. I only get it to almost quiet, then to vibrate. Maybe I'm not setting something right.

Also, today I noticed when typing a paragraph on Facebook my text went in a continuous long line, instead of being able to see it in a larger box as a complete paragraph. Made it impossible to proofread and correct. Not sure if that's a phone thing or a Facebook thing yet. This was regular facebook, not the android app.

The battery is just awesome. I keep wanting to charge it, then I see the green battery indicator has hardly moved. Wonderful.

Bigger phone to get used to, with a few little differences, but it's not bad at all. I just wish my Inc would have stayed normal like when I first got it. I loved it, terrible battery and all. Still learning things on this, though. Hopefully it'll become second nature.

Tbond76, you should be able to have a thumbprint of your last photo show in the corner. Also, there are many other camera programs out there, come free, some for a fee. Vignette has some features that Dinc had, just not elegent or as easily used.
