Opinions On Screen Protectors

Every phone I own gets a BoxWave Anti-Glare ClearTouch protective shield. It slightly reduces the full grandeur of the display's vivedness (but not by much), but makes it finger print resistant, anti-glare and doesn't affect the responsiveness much at all. I rather have the screen protected and not showing prints.

Edit: I just got mine setup with the shield this morning, and I have to say that it is actually EASIER to use since my finger does not stick to the screen at all. It is actually a much better user experience, IMHO.

I installed the Boxwave clear protector last night, I have to say it is much better than Zagg which I have used on many devices including my Hero until last night. The Boxwave is much smoother to touch and the prints seem to be less as well. Thanks for the post!

I have a Zagg on my hero right now. I liked it better without the screen protector at all. If I wanted to switch to a Boxwave protector, how hard is it to remove the Zagg? It seems like it's on there pretty good.

Simple... just pick at one of the corners with your finger nail and it will begin to come up and peel right off. The Boxwave feels almost as smooth as the glass, very nice.

I installed a Martin Fields screen protector a few days ago and it's super clear and smooth. Really nice and easy to install as well. I've tried a Zagg and Bodyguardz before this. Zagg was too sticky for me. The Bodyguardz produced speckles that did not go away after five days.

So far really liking the Martin Fields.

I have had my HTC Hero about 30 days now and have installed the Zagg 360 protection.

I have used Body guardz on my previous phone the htc diamond.

Here is the thing:
Zagg is easier to put on because of the sponge they used to apply the solution which is only water and small amount of baby shampoo.
Zagg issue is the orange peel effect, but so far its great.

Body guardz is the same price but you get two for the price of one so you can split it with a buddy who has that same phone. I'm the only one that has the hero amongst my friends, they have palm pre's. Both are good products, i decided to try Zagg because i have never used it and at the moment, bestbuy had them in stock and body guardz was not on sale at local stores, no one had ordered it yet.

I have a leather case i bought to carry it around on my belt.

Overall, i would agree that the screen touch performance is very slightly diminished, but i found that the benefits out way the slight touch sensitivity.
I heard you could up the sensitivity of the screen possibly??? Recalibrate??

But anyways i have it to protect it from scratches and they are better than the cheap ones. I took my time in placing the Zagg.... i spent about 30 minutes to carefully place them on and make sure they stick right.

I have been using the bodyguardz. I was looking at one in the local mall by SkyTouch. It is supposed to be scratch resistant, anti glare, and reduced fingerprint and dust. The salesperson claim that it doesn't leave bubbles and is washable. I thought about picking one up just to give it a try.

This is the second touch phone that I have used the bodyguardz on and I haven't noticed any change in touch sensitivity.

I put on a generic "universal" screen protector bought from the Sprint store when I purchased my hero. I had to cut it myself to fit the phone and I am having no problems whatsoever. I used my phone for 2 days before putting the protector on, but I am so glad that I did. I can see a lot of scratches on my protector that would be on my phone had I not put it on. This protector I'm using may be generic, but I like how thin it is and is is like it is not even there.

I just put a bodyguardz on my hero, and I used all 5 pieces in the kit and I must say I was kind of skeptical, but I this thing is fantastic. I mean crystal clear, you cannot tell there is something on the screen. It feels smooth with no grabbing on the screen. I took my time and had no air bubbles on either side. I love bodyguardz, they definately have a great product.

I read a few comments about people saying there wasn't really a need for a screen protector. I've used the ZAGG Invisible Shield on my other devices before, but noticed they develop a brownish tinge over time (mine took a couple months and then started browning and turning ugly).

Since I was very protective of my HTC Hero, I got a generic screen protector as soon as I left the store with the phone. Put it on and had it on there for a couple weeks, and the scratches started getting distracting. I noticed the areas on the actual screen (just outside the area where the screen protector was covering) didn't have any scratches at all. I decided to take off the protector and have had it off for the past 2 weeks. I haven't had a scratch at all, and I carry my phone in my pocket all day long.

I did notice, however, that the oil from my finger tips seems to stick to the screen more than with the screen protector, so I find myself wiping down my phone a lot more. The screen looks so much better without a protector. I didn't really notice much improvement in response without the protector. It's a little better, but the protector didn't really seem to affect it.

Hopefully the screen will remain scratch free! So far so good!

I've had the BodyGuardz kit on my phone for about three weeks now. I find myself treating my phone as if it's unprotected, because the pieces fit so well and are almost invisible. I could have done abetter job of putting the front piece on, but it has fried and become a tight fit, and doesn't distract from viewing pictures etc. All-in-all, a great product that allows me to feel confident about carrying it in my pocket or setting it down on any surface.

I applied the zagg screen protector on mine last night. i'm kinda disappointed that the protector is approximately a mm shy from the edge of the glass, so dust and finger prints will accumulate where the protector didn't reach. since it's a thick protector, my fingers tend to catch on the side of the material when transitioning from glass to the zagg. overall, the application was fairly simple, which took about 5-10 minutes in a dust free environment. the transparency is excellent but you will notice a "orange skin" texture of the material when the screen is off. the grippy texture makes tapping the on-screen keyboard a little more difficult but it's still easy to use. cleaning the screen takes a bit more effort now since it doesn't have a oleophobic coating. i really like the zagg screen protector as it feels very durable but I wish it filled the entire screen.

Got my Hero Friday and used it for four days without a screen protector, then installed the Zagg Invisible Shield last night. Haven't noticed any problems at this point.

I have a 12 pack of the Universal Palm Screen Protectors. I can't recall what numbers I used on the back to trim to size but I believe it was a combination of 2 and 3. The cut size was perfect...no glare and it's just as sensitive as it is naked.

Palm Universal Screen Protectors

i go to t mobile and use the universal protectors they have there you have to cut them to fit. yes the screen responce on all protectors no matter what brand you use decreses responcivness but i'd rather push a little harder then put a big permanent gash in my new expensive device. the rainbow effect is due to the light reflecting off the tranparent glue of the protector better glues mean less effect but you still get a rainbow effect. it's the price of keeping your screen looking like new.

What turns ugly, the protector or the phone itself? If it's the latter, I'm taking mine off right now.

he's talking about the protector itself

it's recomended to change your protector every 2 weeks to a month. so i change mine every month have have never seen it and i've use protectors on my g1 when i first got it. also when i change my protectors i wipe down the screen really well so theres no dust or marks then place the new protector on my phone and it's just like new. it all about proper maintanence and taking care of the device. throwing a screen protector on your hero and thinking thats's all you need to do to keep it looking like new are the same people i see 2 months from now complaining how thier phone screen cracked or something of that nature. not saying the ocasional accident doesn't happen but more or less people who are rough on thier phones should not buy this one.

I bought the Invisible Shield a few weeks ago, but was never completely happy with it. It had a pretty sticky feel to it, which often caused me to screw up my unlock pattern amongst other things. There were also some very thin marks/scratches on it (this admittedly might've been because I needed to use my phone a few minutes after putting the protector on).

Thanks to this thread I ordered the boxwave crystal protector, and I just received it today. So far I'm much happier with it. It barely looks or feels like there's anything on the screen!

I have a question for the boxwave users. Are their screen protectors scratch resistant? I like the anti glare and lower amount of fingerprints that the boxwave offers. However, I do like the protection against scuffs and scratches that the bodyguardz offers. I do know that the bodyguardz can "heal" from scuffs but I wanted to know about the durability of the boxwave before I purchase one.
