*edit* So my wife is a chemistry teacher and I decided to ask her (for my own curiosity's sake). Shot her an email and her reply was short, but essentialy it said that she uses both ranges. Didn't really say why though.

You better check again, 1 is as low as you can go on that scale.

The pH scale measures how acidic or basic a substance is. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. A pH of 7 is neutral. A pH less than 7 is acidic. A pH greater than 7 is basic.
