Help Optical mouse problems

Hi, i got my HTC Legend about 4 months ago, and now it's starting to act very strange.

Every time i use the optical mouse, the program i'm using immediatly shuts down (takes me back to the homescreen), while the icon which normally shows when you adjust the volume button is showed. Then afterwerds, no programs will open and the home-, menu-, and backtrackbutton doesn't work. The touchscreen works though. To make it all work again i have to put the phone in and out of standby.

To make matters worse, the batterylife has gone from about 18-24 hours down to 5-6.

I have tried to restore to factory settings but it didn't help.

Has anyone come across this before, or shouldi just send it in for repair?

Sending it in for repair sounds like a good idea. Especially if the problem can be easily replicated. Be wary about the battery life though, it will deteriorate during the lifetime of the phone, also with continual use, e.g. games, browsing, emails, etc.
