Root Optimizing Battery Life?

Well I'll get straight into it, no matter which ROM I flash battery life sucks. I've gone from OA to CM7.2 with OC kernel now.

Just today I charged my phone fully, took it off the charger and played music ever since. I take a look at my phone and its at 70% after two hours with the screen off. I have no apps installed that uses data in intervals, so I'm not getting why my battery drains so fast.

I remember reading people getting over 14 hours of charge meanwhile I don't come close to that. I doubt my battery is faulty, and I am just curious if this is normal battery behavior? Normally my screen is responsible for more than 50% of battery usage, however it was off this whole time?

Any reasons why battery continues to drain?

Go buy an Extended battery. Problem solved.
This phone sucks for battery life on the stock battery -- doesnt matter what ROM you're on (except 2.3.4 vs. 2.3.6 -- the latter having more battery optimizations.)

Other things you can do:
Turn off GPS/BT/Wifi when your not using them.
Turn off auto sync
Set screen brightness to 50% constant
turn off 3G when you're not using it.
Minimize onscreen widgets and apps that use 3G to auto update settings, check for new content, etc...

All those will give you 50% more battery life on the stock battery.

the rom that saves me the most battery is actually OA, RFS version. I charge it over night and go to school, get home around 2:30 and i still have around like 70 battery left and then the rest i use until i go to sleep. on any other rom i have to charge my phone once in the day and overnight, with OA i only have to charge it over night and im good to go.
remember that overclocking also drains the battery faster

A Suggestion Is To Get Set CPU & Make A Profile For When The Screen Is Off & When The Phone Is Charging. I Get Close To 16 Hours Of Battery Life

I, personally, use a combination of Juice Defender and Mobo Task Killer. The task killer I have set to auto kill tasks every hour, and Juice Defender turns off 3G and everything when the screen is locked. On a good day I can go almost two days only using the alarm in the morning and texting a few times a day, most of the time I go at least the whole day without needing a charge. Going in with No Bloat Free and deleting apps you don't need will reduce the amount of work the task killer will have to do.
