Help Optimus Elite spontaneously reset itself??

Lurker
I've had my Optimus Elite for about a month now with absolutely no problems. In fact, I've been following the root forums in anticipation of rooting the phone as soon as a reliable method is found.

Then today, in the 10 minutes it took for me to walk out of the office and to my car, my phone seems to have done a factory reset on itself.

I first noticed the issue when I took it out in the car, where I saw an odd message along the lines of "Virgin Mobile ID is not installed (or incomplete)", and then noticed that my usual icons and background was gone. In fact, it seemed like ALL my apps were gone.

I thought maybe I'd "bump changed" my Virgin Mobile ID to something else (I've never used that feature), but there was nothing else to switch to. In fact, it wanted to download and update itself. Once I let it do that, I had a choice between My ID and The Essentials, NEITHER of which restored my original profile.

The other odd thing I noticed was that the battery had suddenly drained to 33% -- usually at the end of the day, it is no lower than 57%.

I did confirm that it is my phone -- the external SD card still has my stuff on there. :) It's just that everything else seems to have been reset. :(

Does anyone have any ideas of what might have happened or anything else I can try?

You have discovered the joys of MobileID. Thank you so much, Sprint. Every so often it decides to activate itself and download all the crap you removed from the phone when you bought it. Then it reinstalls the "Essentials" ID pack and changes your background and shortcuts back to what they were whenthe phone was new. I check under Manage Applications, All a couple of times a day to shut it off if it's on. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for when it does this, though. Happened to me yesterday. I noticed the phone was quite hot when I took it out to look at something. Also that the battery icon was yellow. Mine is never yellow. A bit later the screen had changed and all my icons were gone. What a pain this piece of crapware is. It's worth rooting the phone just to get rid of that spawn of Satan.

If you catch it when it's starting to download you can clear data for MobileID, and that will (temporarily) stop it. Sadly, it will restart itself in a few days and try again. I don;t think there's a cure other than rooting and removing it. I, too, look forward to a reliable and easy root for the phone.

Wow, what a way to ruin an otherwise very decent phone. :P But thank you, sir, for confirming that it is indeed a MobileID issue. Nuts. Yep, definitely need root to fix this thing.

Yep did same to me but it won't anymore as I have removed it along with all the other crap :D

Phone runs so much better
