Help Optimus M "Input Method"

Hi, im obviously new to the forums and new to smart phones, but I just got the LG Optimus M from Metro PCS and im trying to change keyboards to something such as Gingerbread Keyboard or anything, it doesn't really matter it's just every guide or step-by-step walkthrough on how to change my keyboard has led me to my :

Settings -> Language & keyboard settings -> Input Method

It's just when I get to the Language & Keyboard Settings there is no Input Method option, I've got the Gingerbread Keyboard installed and I can click it but it doesn't switch my keyboard from the default Andriod one.

Any suggestions?

Long press on the space you type in. Open sms and press and hold where it says "type to compose".
