Root Optimus M Overclock thread...

Can someone explain how to do each of these steps in an easier to understand way? I already rooted my opt m using z4root and deleted a bunch of the bloat metro put on my phone, and now I want to overclock it. However, when I try and follow these steps by installing all that stuff to my phone its like reading chinese. I don't know how to do anything that custom recovery thread is explaining because its assuming the person doing that stuff already knows how to mess with all these files, and uses a lot of terms and shorthand that i just dont follow. same goes for all the other stuff. help a noob out!

Okay. I have been trying to see how to get it stable but I can't figure it out how. My question is if whether or not the overclocking for every single phone is different? and what overclock program are you using? I'm using set CPU for root users and I can set it up to about 787 without the phone rebooting on its own. Any input guys?

806/122 Stable and huge difference noticed in the scrolling as well as reaction times to pull up sms/dialer!

Alright so I can only get to 748 MHz on ondemand/performance without it freezing and restarting...followed this guide exactly...any suggestions? Would like to get closer to 800 =(...Thanks in advance!

im on 2.2.1 rooted. im pretty sure i have a custom recovery witch is the biggest requirement of setcpu. what are my options to overclock? if any? i seen that one of the other req. was 2.2 not 2.2.1

You got a lesser CPU. It happens. They test CPUs at certain Mhz levels. Sometimes you get one that goes a lot higher, sometimes a little higher. It's the luck of the draw. You gotta deal with it, or get another phone and hope that it is better.

It depends on the CPU's capacity. The program is not so important. Your CPU either can or cannot go to a certain speed. No program will change what your CPU can or cannot do; it only changes the parameters based on your CPU's actual capacity.

so I should just keep trying to see when the phone reboots itself and then I'll know that's what it can't handle? what if there are occasional freezes and reboots? is that normal or too unstable?

Stable would be with no freezes or reboots at all, anything otherwise and it's kinda pointless. As Reilus said it's the luck of the draw on what your CPU can handle and still have a stable working device.

If your OC'd at 806 and it freezes up when you open an app or browse the web then obviously you need to bump it down some.

Yeah, I'm not stable past 768. But, all things considered it's a lot faster than it was at stock so I'm not really complaining.

I can run at 729 for about 15 minutes with no problems then the phone reboots. I set it back to 600 and no problems at all. So i take it my cpu can't handle it.

I don't know about making a YouTube channel full of tutorials, but there are two of our members working on organizing all of the information for noobs in one place.

This thread for example lays out a checklist of everything you need to OC your phone and provides instruction.

I also understand that some people are visual learners and that technology can be overwhelming for some.

That being said, there are many members (including myself) that are more than willing to help walk people through things. All you have to do is ask, I don't know of any members who have refused to help others or don't wish to be contacted.

sooooooooooo hopefully this post gets seen cause there is a few good # of people out there on stock 2.2.1

im wondering if theres ANY way to OC it, from what i know we can't downgrade to 2.2 but we CAN root and get full service back with the recovery from getitnowmarketing, but we CAN't get the recovery to show up properly. so where does this really leave us at for now?

I got lucky. My first m would go up to 740 or so,but I broke that phone and got a replacement and luckily that one goes to 825. And if anyone needs help I already have the exact directions typed up that helped one person. So just pm me

If this phone was more reliable, I would have done it by now. The problem is nothing seems to last on this phone. It seems to be one problem after another.

PLEASE... someone needs to make a youtube channel for LG OPTIMUS M not just for reviews but for rooted stuff like this thread for instance... not trying to go off topic..

I'm not sure what you have done to your phone so far but I bought my M about a month after it came out and I'm still running 2.2 with stock rom, oc'd to 768 with no problems. Maybe you got a faulty phone. Have you tried to get a replacement?

I finally got the phone working! =) No thanks to Metro -- I exchanged it more than ten times. It was the people here and my own persistence that got the phone working, finally. After exchanging this thing several times and screwing around with the roms here and with much help from many people here it finally works at 748.

I got a random restart on 768 and it completely phroze at higher settings. I am not sure if that 768 restart is from the phone or from the cpu overclock, so I crept it back a notch. So far it is burning in fine. =) It would be nice to go to 800+, but I'm just happy to have a good phone. =)
