Root optimus root

My lg optimus vm670 v.2.2.2 seems to be slowly dying from insufficient storage. Today there was 10mb, yesterday 14mb.
I uninstalled and cleaned every thing there is; used a file manager to see if there are big files, did a factory reset -
My last resort is to root the thing to see if it can be revived. Been reading about optimus rooting for 2 days now. My question is: are there 'best' tutorials? Are there approaches that do more harm than good?
Does one-click rooting really work? I read that gingerbreak is a no-no for v. 2.2.2 while another said it's the best way to root.
Please help - Yaga, confused and overwhelmed new member, from NYC -
Thank you!

Once you have root, go here, this is absolutely the best guide out there :

If you follow this guide to the letter, you should have no trouble, but read it, then read it again, seriously.

If you don't understand something, just ask before you do it, make sure you know the baseband of your phone, found under settings >about phone >should be zv4 or zv5, this will help.

Right now the MiRaGe rom is the best for our phone.

Good luck!:)
