Optimus S or Evo or Transform?

I have Vortex on verizon and I'm very happy with it. The battery is easily going two days under moderate use without news/weather, SNS widgets. The call reception, quality is pretty decent too. Overall speed is quite snappy and the form factor is sleek and light. My only gripe is default Bing search, but it's none issue for other Optimus phones. I highly recommend it for entry to medium level smart-phone users.

LG has been android underdog recently, but it's changing soon with upcoming dual core Optimus 2X, B, etc. They are beginning to roll.

I've had my Optimus S for a couple of weeks now and I love it. I think its an amazing phone at an awesome price. The only thing making me think twice about returning it within the 30 days is internal memory. I think it has 140 MB for internal memory and I've pretty much used that up. Yes, I have a decent amount of downloaded apps, but I've moved all the ones that allow me to the SD card. So I dont know what else to do.

If you are fairly technical, you can root the phone and remove unused apps.

And, if you want to go a step further, check out thunderrom over on the opt s android central forum. I went from 20MB free on stock to 95MB free with ThunderRom.

I ran into the same problem with memory but with Root, I can use titanium backup and that lets you move any app to the sd. I have a 8gb memory card so it will be a while before I run out of space.

Thanks guys. Just finished rooting it and moved almost all of my downloaded apps to the SD card. Theres still alot of stuff usig internal memory, I'm guessing its just system tools or something using it. Doesnt matter though, whatever I download now I can just move to the card. Guess I'll be keeping it. No 4G fee for me!

I just purchased my "free" ($35 in taxes) Optimus S from Best Buy a few days ago and have noticed 4 fairly significant shortcomings over my HTC Hero (which was a horrible phone, but based on other's opinions I think I just had the misfortune of having 2 lemons in a row.)
1 - No external message, missed call, charging notification light, so if I don't here the audible notification I have no idea there's a message waiting without turning on the screen.
2 - No screen auto-brightness. So I have to go through the many steps to change the screen brightness to meet the ambient light requirements.
3 - Auto scrolling header and footer in Gmail email while viewing messages. Rather than staying at the top and bottom of the message so I have the whole screen to view the message, the buttons on the top and bottom stay at the top and bottom of the screen, so the viewable area of the screen available for the actual message is drastically reduced.
4 - Not standard mini-USB charging/syncing port. Although the rep who sold it to me told me it was a standard mini-USB plug, it is smaller and flatter, so I can only use the cord that came with my phone, not the several standard mini-USB cords I use for many other electronics.

I don't want to pay the extra $10/month (on Sprint) for a 4G phone, so I'll probably exchange this fairly disappointing Optimus S for the Samsung Transform. If I'm not happy with that I may have to suck it up and spend the money (up front and monthly) for the HTC EVO or Samsung Epic.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

1 - that's true. I don't need (or want) one but I know a lot of people do. I believe there are a few posts describing solutions others have come up with. Check the android central optimus s forum if you don't find anything here.
2 - True. I can't say this has caused me any problems in usability though. It might be an issue if you use transition constantly between indoor and sunny outdoor environments.
3 - Yes. It's using the stock android gmail client... I believe HTC has their own email client so if you want that feature I believe you'll need to revert to an HTC phone or look at other email clients like improved mail or touchdown.
4- This phone uses a micro-usb cable and I believe most (if not all) new android phones have moved to this instead of the mini-usb cable.

Barndoggy

For #2 install the Power Control widget that came stock. It'll give you brightness control plus wi-fi, bluetooth, and gps toggles
