Root Optimus V Accelerometer Help

Encerspay

Android Enthusiast
I have an Optimus V, Stock ROM rooted, running a custom kernel. Lately the usually flawless accelerometer in the phone has just stopped working entirely. Games like Air Penguin and Froggy Jump are unplayable. Suggestions on how to fix? Thanks in advance.

Download Z-DeviceTest by Zauson. Free in the Play Store. It won't fix it, but it will tell you if the accelerometer is working. Nice for testing a lot f other things, too.

Cool, thanks. But I'm a noob, and the app doesn't say it bluntly, so, how would I know if it's broken? And if it is broken, what should I do? D:

If you made a backup in your custom recovery (this is called a nandroid backup), then restore it. It sounds like the kernel you installed is causing your problem. The best way to be sure is to install a backup that doesn't have that kernel.
If you made no backup or have no recovery, go to the All Things Root Guide sticky. Go to "How to flash/install the flash_image, recovery, and ROM" in the Guides section. Everything you need to know is in there. You will need to install either the Stock ROM or a custom ROM once you install a custom recovery. Once installed make a backup.
Now that your rooted, once you put a custom recovery on your phone you must never use the Factory reset in the privacy setting. It will brick your phone. You can only use the "wipe data/factory reset option in the recovery.

Then follow the second part of Andy's direction. You'll basically need to do a full wipe and fresh install after you make sure everything you've downloaded had proper md5 you likely either have a bad download or a bad flash. I've personally not heard of that kernel so I am not sure how up to date it is or if it had any issues.

That's what I would recommend. I would go with an updated rom like backside where you don't need a new kernel. Use titanium backup to backup your user apps them go into your recovery and do a full wipe then one your new rom is installed reboot, download titanium backup and restore your apps.

Okay, so, I saw that I shouldn't restore system apps once I installed the new ROM... why not?
Also, how am I going to get my calendar, music, texts, etc., back?

Run the Z-device test. Wait for it to come up.
Locate the accelerometer icon, tap it lightly with your finger, watch the screen.
You should get a bunch of information, plus a thing that looks like 3 colored lines at right angles to each other.
Tilt your phone while watching it, it should move accordingly. Also notice whether the data points are receiving data - they should be updating constantly.
