Root Optimus V Charging Issue: Won't turn off

I know this is an issue that has been brought up here before (http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-all-things-root/413363-backside-iho-rom-charging-issue.html) but since it's been a few months I was wondering if there have been any updates.

I prefer to turn my Optimus V off when I charge it, and that worked fine under the stock 2.2 OS. But I rooted this past weekend and installed BACKside IHO and now my phone will not stay off while plugged in.

Does anyone know if this is something that will be corrected sometime down the road? (Hopefully sooner than later ;))

Also, we all know - or SHOULD know - not to use aftermarket chargers because of the danger of over-charging the battery. I use the stock LG power adapter and USB cable that came with my phone, so that shouldn't be an issue. But I am wondering does the phone's internal circuitry automatically stop the charging when the battery reaches the full +/-4.2V capacity? Since I leave my phone plugged in overnight, I would hate to think I am shortening the battery life by not unplugging it as soon as it's fully charged.

Thanks in advance for any information or feedback.

It wont turn off when charging never has since they started the rom or any other Iho rom. I don't think they can change it.

It does stop once full.

nope, cm7 issue.
you can charge the phone in recovery if you want it to go faster. push power button to turn off the screen (backlight stays on but that's minimal drain)
someone reported 3x faster charging in recovery than in cm7 rom, but I haven't verified personally.
the kernel stops the charging when battery is full, and also controls the charge voltage drawn by the phone, whether in rom or recovery.

I wouldn't have thought to charge it in recovery mode. I have noticed that since I put BACKside on, my battery drains about 3 or 4 times faster than it used to and it takes FOREVER to charge now :-\ I'll have to get around to downloading Juice Defender or some such.

Have you re-flashed BACKside since you noticed the battery drain? Most people reported an increase in battery life with build 1109201. I myself noticed a huge increase. Haven't noticed an increase in charge time. All in all this is a very stable build IMHO.

There's a new build up as of today as well.

I am, in fact, using 11092011. I've had my phone for not even 2 months and this is my first experience with rooting & custom ROMs. I installed BACKside last Friday and immediately noticed the shorter battery life. But since I am new to rooting and the new ROM, I think I will stick with this until I am more familiar with it.

And perhaps I exaggerated a little bit when I mentioned my battery drain. I estimate I have about half the battery life I did before rooting. The neighborhood I live in has somewhat poorer signal strength and I know that when I'm home my phone is using more power trying to search for and maintain a signal.

One thing I did notice today... I keep my phone switched off while I'm working. I started my day with 100% battery and in about 25 minutes on my lunch break I sent 3 or 4 text messages and did just a little bit of Facebook-ing. By the time my lunch was over I was already down to 83%. My display brightness is set just a few clicks above the lowest level as it's quite bright enough for my eyes. At this point, it's more of a nuisance than an actual problem. As I mentioned before, I will have to get around to getting Juice Defender or a similar power management app and hopefully that will give me a little more life out of my battery.

I've also considered purchasing a spare battery. My sister has the Samsung Mesmerize and was able to buy a spare charger that charges just the battery. Does anyone know if LG makes one for the Optimus? I won't waste my money on anything aftermarket as I am rather picky about that, so it would have to come straight from LG. I suppose I could take the time to look it up... :-P

But did you re-flash the rom? I think if you re-flash you will find better battery life. I don't think anyone who uses BACKside would even consider using Juice Defender as it's simply not needed. I highly recommend flashing this newest build.

On the BACKside thread in Jerry's first post you will find two sets of flashing instructions. Follow the first and don't forget to make a backup and flash gapps also. When you follow the first set of instructions, you do not lose your app settings or anything. Think of flashing a new build like updating Windows... nothing changes accept perhaps a few new additions, tweaks, and maybe bug fixes.

Edit: If you aren't already, I also highly recommend following the entire BACKside thread. A lot of times Jerry and others will post some extremely useful information. ;)

Ok, I guess I was confused when you first mentioned re-flashing in your previous post. You had recommended the 11092011 build and, since that is what I am already running, I didn't quite understand. I don't have much time this evening, but in the next day or two I will grab the latest build, do a re-flash, and post back here.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm still a no0b so I appreciate all the knowledge I can get.

It's all good. I'm still learning myself!

Here's some info just for future reference.

Sometimes, but not often, when you flash a rom something will go wonky and things don't run like they should. This is when you can flash the same build again (aka re-flash) to see if it will fix whatever issues you are having (in your case the battery drain). Re-flashing just means you are reinstalling that particular build again.

Re-flash: follow the first set of instructions in Jerry's post just like you would a new build. :)

Oh, I get it now :-P Thank you for the explanation. I will have to give that a shot some time when I have a spare moment.
