Life Goes On
We have asked for the display (optional) of your gender. So this way if a male is talking to a female and she doesn't like that the male is refering to her as a male, or vise versa, you now have the option in user cp/edit details/all the way at the bottom, you can select male or female and the default is nothing the way it is now. This will show up under your avatar like mine here in your each and every post profile. This is optional, you can leave it the way it is now with nothing or add it to your posting profile.

Doesn't help those of us who don't have avatars showing (I don't much care for the animated ones or the crude/vulgar ones, so I just turned off seeing them in my CP).

so you can't go into user cp/ edit details/ and at bottom of page, click on a gender, didn't think it mattered if you have an avatar or not?

en quoi ca te regarde

If I can't take the heat, I won't go in the kitchen
It is optional, if don't want it then don't do it. You do not have to check one, but if want, the option is there. I am seeing a bunch of people starting to do it. Those that don't want to then don't, EASY AS THAT.:):D. Just putting this here to let it be know you can do it if you want.:)

 If it's displayed with the avatar, then those of us who prefer to not show avatars will not see that info about other posters, thus it's not helpful.

You don't have to have an avatar for it to be displayed. It will show up in that same area where your posts, locations, etc. show up. The avatar area so to speak, but again no avatar needed / required.

You were able to put in the city and state you live in or wanted to post. It works the same way. Go to (user cp) at top of page in the green bar, click that, then click edit details, then go all the way to the bottom and click one of the options you want and thats that.

(Sorry about the mix up I had put edit profile and it is in edit details, I fixed all my posts, sorry about that)

With maybe the exception of this particular forum, it shouldn't matter.

Sex, race, religion, color, political affiliation should have no damn bearing on one Android user helping another. We are here for our Android phones. I can foresee some problems with this.

That may well be and like in any situation that is why there is a report button. Also in our device many times well all call people he and some females have come out and said I'm not a he I'm a she. While we were asking about this option others were saying the same thing from other devices as well. Some like a name that might not show they are male or female but want it to be known. Some even thought I was a female but I am a male. In the end it is OPTIONAL, nobody has to do it, it is for the ones that want to do it just like posting your city and state, you don't have to and some don't.

Then I apparently misunderstood just what info would and would not show up if you're not displaying avatars. Sorry about that. (We don't seem to have a good smilie for embarrassment or I'd use it about here.)

Thanks for the information, Chris. ;)

I only wish other needed feature could be as easily implemented as well.

Except that the structure of the English language very often requires you to know someone's sex in order to use the correct pronoun when referring to that person. It helps, for example, in referring to Seanette, to know that she is female, so that I don't end up using male pronouns to refer to her. It's obvious enough in her case, as she has a rather obviously feminine name. (Being married to her also helps, as far as removing any question or doubt about whether she is male or female.)

English is actually unusual, among Latin-based languages, in that generally only living things have a sex or gender. In many other Latin-based languages, all objects

I really don't care what pronoun anyone uses. It's how they answer that matters. You should be polite regardless of which gender. If someone gets upset over gender when dealing with something like a phone in a forum they have a problem. I don't think any answers should be geared to the sex of the poster. We are all human and should see it that way.

We could use Frederick Pohl's solution- Heshee.

That's why it's optional :p

Like Sammyz says it is optional, It shouldn't be a big deal, just don't participate and anyone else that wants to can, pretty simple:).
