Help Orange 3g reception problems still present after 1.21 flash

Just to let anyone know who is having horrible internet reception problems and unsending texts/bounced calls etc, while connected to 3g on Orange.
Flashing the firmware and updating to 1.21.405.2 does not make any difference. The same problems occur.

This means that either I have had 3(!) Desires with a glaring hardware problem, or more likely, Orange 3g reception is awful or undergoing downtime, or upgrades, perhaps due to the T-mobile merger.

I would be very keen to know those with non-HTC phones on Orange have these problems. These problems seem to be particularly common in South East England/Essex/London.

Good luck all.

It is not the phone, it is Orange's network. It is very poor in certain parts of London and at busy commuting times. All the mobile networks are maxxed out. They cannot cope with the massive uptake of smartphones and mobile broadband usage. Orange has one of the worst infrastructures for this. I have been using Orange for over 2 years and have seen the problems get worse in line with the increase of mobile broadband usage.

The mobile networks have created this problem. They have blindly taken our money without investing any of it on better infrastructure or new technology and are now struggling to provide the service for which we pay for. This is why all the data packages are being reduced.

I had really bad 3G\H reception and more than is acceptable dropped\straight to answerphone calls when I was on Orange using my TouchHD I put it down to the phone, maybe not then. Swapped over to 3 for Desire and lifes good :D

It is Orange, my 3G has been up and down recently. I thought it was the phone but there is nothing that is interfering with the settings and it went down again yesterday for half the day and then came back up.

Previous to the past few weeks I had no issue using 3G, I guess they have sold too many smartphones and cannot cope :D

at work my internet reception is very poor.a workmate has a iphone 3gs on o2 and he can play back internet radio and youtube within 10 secs but my desire just keeps saying loading and never gets there or if does its stop start.however after i leave work and go 200 meters down the road i can get perfect youtube playback!!!!

You know the irony of that statement is brilliant :) 3 use Orange for their 3G connectivity!

As said earlier Orange take the money and keep it without upgrading the network. But I have found that if you keep your 3g connection on (like iPhone users do) rather than turning it on when you want it, you get a much quicker response and a much steadied response. I guess patience is the key (and less battery life! Aargh)

Keeping data on will help, as networks always give priority to connected devices over devices asking to connect.

I get the same problems and my girlfriend gets them too on her galaxy s. Didn't have the problems with our old Nokia smart phones so I'm thinking it could be an Android thing because I've heard similar stories on the xda forums from people on other networks. Hopefully 2.2 will help us all out.

No they don't I don't know where you got that idea from!!!

3 have a 3g only network and its very good as long as you are in a coverage area (which is quite good thesedays) and when you are not in good coverage it will automatically switch onto Oranges network for 2G only which on Oranges stoneage network is quite good.

A little bit of research goes a long way when making comments like that.

The 3 service was launched in the UK on 3 March 2003 (3/3/3). After 32 months of operations, 3 acquired 3.2 million UMTS customers, more than the other UK mobile operators' UMTS subscribers combined. In 2003, 3 launched the UK’s first video mobile network to bring new services to the mobile media market. Given 3G was a new technology, 3 undertook one of the fastest network rollouts in UK history and met their license regulatory requirements three years ahead of schedule. 3 has a roaming agreement with Orange which allows its customers to use their handsets on the 2G network when they move out of 3G coverage. Before January 2007, their partner network was O2.[21]

Your old Nokia's were fine because there weren't as many people using the data network as there are now. I've had this issue with both Nokia and HTC. Orange's coverage is very patchy, especially in London.

@nacatomi - sorry, I knew 3 and Orange shared something, but I thought it was the 3G network, not 2G.

My bad.

Thanks for the history lesson though:)

I have a HTC Desire on Orange and I have never experienced anything as bad as the Orange network. I have had limited 3G all the time can use it for about 20mins per day other than that it just does not work and I have to turn my phone on and off again. I have called Orange 20 times to complain and was told that the whole GSM network was down!!! what a load of nonsense so they put me on 3G only which only made things worse. I complained so many times that Orange told me to change my phone, same thing happens bad 3G signal all day long can't even use it for anything really have to use my wireless at home to have any sort of online experience with my phone. I think I am the most unhappy customer ever I was with O2 for 3 years before that and never had any complaints. I can only Advise people Do not get Orange if you want to use the internet on your phone.

I'm really fed up with Orange and i'm only 3 months into a 2 year contract. Its especially bad now I have changed jobs.

The odd thing is that 98% of the time at my desk chair it doesn't work. But 2% of the time it works flawlessly.

I need to get out of my Orange contract but I don't know how. Surely Orange are in breach of contract? Has anyone had any luck in getting their contract cancelled?

Just because it doent work in one location, Orange will tell you to do one.

IF however it doesnt work at 90% of the locations your frequent....
