Root Orange Desire Root Queries

Hi all,

I feel like I have read pretty much everything on the internet about rooting my phone, but I just wanted to be totally clear.

My computer is a Mac.
My phone is the HTC Desire on ORANGE (blaargh!)
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.10.05.30

Erasethingy(?!) 40000.

So my questions are -

1) Is this possible on Orange phones without making a goldcard.. if no can I just use my existing SD or do i need a spare (i.e. 2 SD cards).

2) Do I just use the unrEVOked method, as that seems to be the most straight forward one?

I got in late December 2010. I want to get rid of all the Orange crapware and also upgrade it to Gingerbread... have it run faster, save internal memory etc. From my understanding I think rooting and flashing a custom ROM is the way forward for this. Also I have read SURoot FAQs.

One final thing - I am moving from England (UK) to New Zealand this September, so I think my warranty won't exist over there anyway so not that bothered about that, nor receiving Orange updates as I have to buy out my contract and crack on with a New Zealand based carrier.

Obviously I'm happy to provide any other info needed, but i might need help on how to find it!!

Help is REALLY appreciated!

Ben :)

Possible, but unwise. If you need to use an RUU (e.g. to fix a serious mess-up) you will need a goldcard, because there is no Orange RUU available. So it would be better to do it.

For the same reason, note that there is no going back to the original unrooted software for an Orange branded phone. It's probably best if you think of your warranty as irrecoverably void if you do this.

Using your current card is fine.

Yes, but take note of the instructions relating to erase size 40,000 in the rooting FAQ. You should use unrevoked, but you will need to install AmonRA recovery rather than the default (clockworkmod 2.5.0.7).
