Orange HTC Desire 2.2 (Froyo) update

Just had a chat with someone regarding this - They are not aware of any thing being pulled update wise! I'll keep tracking this and see what happens, if I hear that it's being pulled i'll find out why.

What are the chances of making the game demos deletable?

There are far too many bits and pieces where an errant tap of the fingertip results in yet another attempt to access the Orange app shop :(

Making Faceache removable as well would definitely get you onto my Christmas card list ;)

Fairly low I assume - Orange do actually make revenue out of having them on there so i'm guessing.. Agree with you guys regarding the demos not being deletable though.

Thanks for coming on here.

Keep us updated.

Oh, and tell one of the head guys that Orange has a poor reputation among the forums for the branded crap they pack into the software.

Great to here they have addded G-Talk back in and got rid of the Homescreen & Selector as they were constantly running in the background.

Any more news on this? Update still not available on my Orange Desire :( I've been so desperate to remove all of this crap for so long I nearly sent the phone back and got an Iphone when I found out how bad it was :(

Nothing at the moment - I wont be in the office tomorrow (it's my engagement party ;) ) so will try and chase first thing Monday!

Have a good weekend chaps!

Zebwen...have a look for LauncherPro on the Market. You can use it to hide any apps you don't use. It also adds a dock at the bottom of the screen which you can add your most used apps to. I prefer it over HTC sense to be honest.

While I wait for the mythical Froyo update to make its way (presumably by pigeon post) to my phone I've been thinking a lot about all the shtty 'enhancements' Orange made to Android 2.1.

Removing one of the HTC Music player's buttons and replacing it with a direct link to the Orange music store was pretty fcked up but installing game demos that could not be removed was clearly the work of a sociopath (why do you hate us so much Orange, why?).

I've not yet been brave enough to root my phone and install a custom ROM but if Froyo doesn't arrive in the next 12 hours I will.

A question: if I did nothing more than root my phone (keeping the current ROM) would I then be able to remove the countless Orange apps that I have and will never use?

I wouldn't recommend it as it voids the phone's warranty. But yes, that would then allow you to remove the applications, should you want to..

I could be wrong, as I have no more knowledge about this update than anyone else on this forum, but the update roll-out appears to have stalled. I've noticed that no one has confirmed receiving the update since around midnight on Wednesday (actually a few minutes into Thursday).

Although there aren't hundreds of people on this thread, I would have thought that at least someone who's been complaining would have received it in the past two days.

As I say, I could be wrong...

I realise as I'm typing this that this is probably a stupid question, but...
Would de-branding (NOT rooting) void the warranty as well?

Not only has it stalled, it now appears certain desire users must first install an update before getting froyo, however that is not available at this time !!

From orange support site......

For HTC desire users running software version number 1.15.61.10 HTC has recently advised us you will first need to update your devices to 1.22.61.1
HTC will be making the 1.22.61.1 update available early next week.

In my opinion both Orange and HTC have failed at multiple stages with this project, clearly the infrastructure in place is totally insufficient for this kind of role out, no dynamic server provisioning is being used with lack of bandwidth and demand being the given reason, the package size of this update is very small compared to that of other client/server applications that use patch/OTA software management with far fewer clients millions against tens of thousands. This will most likely boil down to how much orange has 'paid up' to use of HTC's available infrastructure, judging by the fact orange is one of the last to even get off the blocks it cant be one of the biggest spenders.

Well done Orange, clearly you don

Hi guys,

I've been asking around this morning regarding the above 'extra' software update and noone is able to tell me anything right now.. No idea what that means but!

A collegue of mine received his 2.2 update to his black desire last week and he hasn't had any issues with it since so i'm not sure what's up..

I will apologise on behalf of both companies for this, but I know it doesn't make any difference (I was in the same boat as everyone here, with the Hero and 2.1 update) - At the end of the day, you WILL get your updates, it is just a matter of when.. By the looks of things, this week should be better than last.

Seriously, what the **** is going on here? 6 weeks the Desire 2.2 update has been out. 6 ****ing weeks. It's taken Orange 6 goddamn weeks to take this perfectly good, fully functioning update, and add all their undeleteable shit to it. Don't give us this horseshit excuse that they're testing it. What they should say is "We're testing all teh crap we've added will work okay." I don't mind you adding shit, but why make it undeleteable?

Now a full week after you've supposedly released the update, I can't find a single person who has confirmed that they've got it.

I'll be rooting and flashing to the stock Froyo rom that HTC released.

Really am bored of this waiting now!

Think am just gonna debrand mine now! Been wanting to get rid of the orange crapware for a while now anyway!

Any body else got the update only to find the wireless hotspot doesn't work? Can connect devices to phone but cannot use the phone's 3g connection to access the net from the devices due to DNS issues - useful!!

Orange don't seem to know anything about it either
