Help Orange San Francisco Tethering

geth3

Lurker
Hello,
I am going to buy this phone from orange but I need to know if I can tether it to an ipod touch.
Firstly I will unlock it using this website Free Instant Unlock Codes for Alcatel, Huawei Modems & ZTE Mobile Phones so I can use my 3 sim card with it with 150mb internet every time you top up.
But what I need to know is will I be able to tether it? I have read that you need to root it to use the tethering app that comes with android, is this right? If so please can you send a link to the best tutorial to root it?

Thank you! :)

I know this phone allows tethering, and yes you will need to root it (fairly simple) I know because I'm using one myself with tethering. What I don't know is if you can tether to an ipod touch as I dont have one to try out

If an ipod can pick up a wifi signal then i dont see why it could not pick up the signal from a tethered SF.

Yes it will link to an Ipod touch via wifi tethering, as I have done it on my SF, look in http://android.modaco.com/category/488/zte-blade-roms-rom-customisation/ for flashing ROM's

Hi Andrew, I have a Orange San Francisco which I have unlocked, then upgraded to 2.2 using the Swedish Spring RLS5 but I didn't realise until tonight reading your question that it allowed me to tether the phone. I have just managed to link my ipad2(wifi only) and my touch to the San Francisco with no problems si it works - great.
My provider is O2 on PAYG so I can use my free internet allowance for my ipad2.

Good luck

I use mine as a wifi hotspot download books to my kindle m8 (dont tell my network, unlimited internet but NO TETHERING allowed) so think it should work m8.
I think 3 allow tethering.
u can temporalily root using Universal Androot app each time u want to tethering :-)

probly vorb m8
I think the only way they discover tethering is by heavy data use m8..... then maybe they check out ip or whatever but wouldnt using a difrent phone use a different ip?
anyway the kindle uses tiny amounts of data. i hadnt realised u could browser on the kindle. pity its not touch screen :-)
