Hello, I hope this is the correct section, my apologies if it isn't. Sorry if this a rather long story.

Several weeks ago I broke the screen on my Galaxy s2, I have insurance and duly sent it off for repair. When it was returned it, I had not only lost all my data but the phone no longer had any of the Orange specific features (widgets, etc) so clearly more than a factory reset had been done.
The phone would make calls, texts and use my data plan but I couldn't access the contacts on my sim card. Seeing as I knew Orange have released ICS and my phone was 'blank' I decided this would be a good time to upgrade and hoped that it would solve the contacts problem. When I tried Kies displayed the message "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies".
I checked and the firmware and it now reads as

PDA I9100XWKF1
PHONE I9100XXKE7
CSC I9100OJVKE4
BUILD INFO SAT JUN 4 18:09:49 KST 2011

I researched on this forum and read that this is firmware for Turkey & Bahrain!
Obviously I sent the phone straight back to them with a note to change it back, but I was hoping someone hear could provide me with the details of the correct firmware for the phone on Orange or point me in the right direction so I can check it when they return the phone?

Also if anyone is an expert in hardware could they tell the likelihood of them actually needed to change the firmware/mainboard due to a broken screen? I feel like someone might have messed up the repair or I'm be being taken for ride.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not that surprised that you got a different handset when returning one with a broken screen. I'm sure it's easier for them to send you a replacement and add yours to the refurb pool than to fix a specific handset and track it so that it goes back to the original owner. Last time I had a replacement from Orange (back in 1997!) it wasn't even the same model, never mind the same handset - which was a good thing for me :).

I would also expect that they would update to the current firmware as a matter of course, which if Samsungs are anything like HTCs would also do a factory reset in the process. Honestly, I would never expect to get my data back on a phone I sent in for repair, whether to Orange or the manufacturer, and would personally wipe it before handing it over. However, no explanation for Turkey/Bahrain firmware - that is just plain bizarre, and sounds like a failure of their QA processes for them to send that to you.

Edit: I should note however that in my answer above I assumed that your insurance was Orange Care. If it was with someone else, then I don't know what I'd expect, except probably not what you got!

I doubt it was orange care.

My partner had a phone changed on orange care and a courier brought a bare phone with no battery or cover and did a door step swap so she always had a phone.

The new handset was orange branded with the latest orange UK firmware at the time.

Hiya
Sadly no it wasn't Orange care, I got a few months free insurance when I got my phone and never bothered switching, in hindsight this was a major mistake. I'm with Citymain administrators who use a company called the Fone clinic to fix phones.(who aren't Samsung certified repairers, so I guess there goes my warranty :() I can't recommend highly enough to every body to steer clear of these 2 companies and any insurer who uses the Fone clinic.

@Hadron
It wasn't a new phone it had the same IMEI number and marks on the case as when I sent it off, I wasn't expecting it to come back with my data still on it, but a different non functioning, superseded firmware has left me rather puzzled. I'd have been pleased as punch if they had have just sent me a new S2.
