Organize your contacts into circles!... wait... how?

So the commercial VZW is running for the Nexus shows some guy organizing his contacts into circles in a Google+ish way. Anyone know how this is done or if it's a feature that was advertised before it was pushed to the GNex like hangouts on mobile?

~Andrew Thanks.

Once you sign into the Google+ app, it gives the option to sync contacts. That can also be found under settings in Google+. Not sure if that does what you're looking for, as I haven't synced my contacts, but that's the only thing I can think of ATM.

"Circles" is a Google+ feature. They're really trying to get people into Google+, even if that commercial was a bit misleading (and it was).

Personally, I shun sites/services like Google+, facebook, and myspace as a blight upon the internet.

I use Google+ a little. I was excited because I thought it would be pretty cool to have that kind of organization in the people app. (Most of my contacts are not on Google+).

You can already do this in Google Contacts. You can create as many groups as you want, and assign people into any number of them.

Id use the google+ circles feature but i dont want all those people im follwong to show up in my contacts.

Well, I'm not sure if you are referring to Google+, but the way I organized my contacts into a "circle" better known as a "Folder", was I first added a Direct Dial contact via Widgets, once I had them all on my screen I dropped them onto one "pile" in order to make the folder.

And now you have your Contacts in a "Folder" that looks like a circle.

Hopefully this is what you were referring to.

I like Google + but unfortunately no one uses it that I know . Most of my friend are on facebook so I use that . I'd love to see Google + be the new facebook as I think it's just better . But that's probably not gonna happen . I could organize my whole 4 google + contacts into a circle I guess lol

You can still use Google + if you have the person's email address. It will simply send the post as an email.

As for the question in the OP. If you go into a contact in the people app it will have a Connections heading, under that is an option to Add Connection. When you click on it, it will allow you to add the person to a Google + circle (this is for all contacts not just the ones that are on G+). I'm not sure how it works after that, but I'm pretty sure that is what the comercial is talking about.

My contacts are completely organized by contact. You can do this through the app or through plus.google.com. Either way it doesn't take long. If you use the app, go to Circles> Here you will see your current circles (if you have any). If you don't have any or would like to add a new one click "Create New" at the bottom. Once a new one is clicked (or click on an existing circle) you will see "+Add People" at the bottom. Click that and you will see all of your contacts listed. Put a check mark next to everyone that belongs in that circle and click OK. It will save and you are finished.

Hope that helps. BTW, what others have said about this is true. It's not a new feature, it's just being billed as new now that Google+ is going mainstream. I've used "labels" for years in Gmail. It's how I send group emails, texts, etc.

some of ya's answers puzzle me ? its obvious some of ya have not seen the commercial. the easy question is on our current cell phones we have (contacts) in that galzxy nexus commercial it makes it seem we can add our (contacts) in to circles. NOT the contacts that we have on our google+ website. short answer no we can not.

you can add any contact to a Google + circle, it doesn't matter if they have a Google + account.

I've had the phone for almost a month, and I've only used Google+ once and Google+ Messenger three times. I've been on Google+ since its beta, but even then I nor anyone else I know uses it. Facebook is the dominant social network with Twitter following behind. Heck. Even FourSquare and Tumblr are more prominent than Google+. Google arrived too late on the scene and while Hangouts and Circles are neat features, Facebook hurried itself to integrate its own versions of them and update the look before Google+ went public.

The Google+ features are nice, but are basically worthless. If the social network was something as big and great as Facebook, I could definitely see it being a strong marketing tool to sell the phone, but because its not, its taking up space. You can almost call it bloatware at this point.
