OTA 45.3.6 Is live!

For you guys who can't update, here's a sure-fire way. It takes time, but if you install this sbf:

xda-developers - View Single Post - 2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_6-CM 10/2/11 latest SBF build working gtalk video w/voice

using RSDlite per the instructions in the first post of that same thread, your phone should accept the OTA no problem. You may have to reset, but that's a small price to pay.

I'm having the same 'update failed' issue as as4k. What do I do with this .sbf file once I download it? I downloaded it with my computer because it was over 2 gigs. I just got this phone a week ago and it's my first Android so I'm still a noob with this stuff.

For those who can not get the update to install at all, you might want to try taking it to a Sprint repair center and see if they can manually install it if you don't want to mess with it yourself.

I may have to do that. What bothers me is that this is a brand new Photon (my old one had a physical defect) and I did a factory reset on it a few hours after I got it. Im not rooted at all. Thanks for the tip!

I just want to make my experience known. I did this yesterday. Actually called my coporate sprint dedicated support after doing a complete factory reset and was still unable to install the update. They confirmed there was nothing further they could do. So they opened up a ticket and told me to take it to my nearest sprint service center. So I did.

I dropped it off and had dinner down the street. When I came back they said that the update was just pulled because of widespread problems. The lead tech said they have had people coming in for days with the same problem and that of the few people that acutally got it installed many of them experinced a constant reboot. THus the update was (or is being) pulled.

So I set my phone back up again and restored my apps and I'll be waiting for the next update.

Nice to hear that the update was pulled. I tried a factory reset and as I expected the update still did not work. Looks like I wont have to worry about it for now :)

Good to hear it was pulled. I mean seriously, did they test this update at all before they released it? Don't push an update if it's not ready. Too many companies have gotten in the habit of hurry up and release now, fix later. I only tried installing it twice, the phone still works great without the update.

So this is confirmed? Or just a Sprint rep said it was. I don't see this on Motos site. They still have the release notes posted.

seriously did you think before you posted

unless you know, dont spout off.....

yes it was tested, and it has worked just fine....

much like anything else in this world somethings just dont work....more so in electronics...

updated 1st time and quickly with no issues, and I was a tester....and nothing but good has come from it..

Same here. Glad I got the update. I have no issues with the phone now and couldn't be happier...

Sorry this update didn't go well for some of you.

I was also a tester. This was carefully tested and scrutinized. Mine downloaded just fine and I've had no problems since.

Smart phones in general seem touchy and it seems all of them have had issues.

I'm having the best experience I've ever had with a smart phone (ok, only my second). The support for this phone has been nothing but amazing.

Any of you having problems with the update should report the problems to Motorola. The following forum seems to be staffed by employees who do actually listen and they offer good advice.

So there is no confiusion, my claim about the update being pulled is not confirmed. This is what I was told at a sprint repair facility. I still do not have the update and am unable to get it installed. So if the update is still out there and this is unconfirmed please speak up. I'll need to return my Photon promptly.

I was also a tester and have had no problems whatsoever.. I am not a real techie person, but I have noticed my battery life has gotten better

No problems at all with the current update on my end. The MoPho is hands-down the most capable, stable smartphone I've ever had. It's as close to "perfect" as can be reasonably expected... if they'd fix the damn low-bitrate streaming audio issue, it would be pretty much perfect from my POV.

Ok I have CONFIRMED WITH SPRINT that the update was NOT pulled. I contacted our corporate rep at Sprint, she contacted a Sprint Solution Engineer who reached out to their Motorola contact. They confirmed the update was not pulled.

The Moto forums moderator has confirmed there is a problem with some people getting the update but have yet to post any follow up info other than "hang tight" (insert pic of cat hanging from a branch)....

***EDIT: To anyone that is UNABLE to install this update please confirm what Build Number you are on. Its appearing that the problem might be localized to users running 4.5.1A-1_SUN-154_6

For those that have this Build number running, have you tried the XDA one to update?

I'm not experiencing any problems with my update and it's build number 4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_6. That's the same number for the update that tbhausen posted via XDA earlier in this thread.

Yes, that is the build number I have and I am unable to update.

Here is the direct link from the update that was leaked via XDA

Uploadhere.com - free file storage & hosting

That's the same build number that I currently have and have absolutely no issues with it. Granted, my update automatically pushed to my phone (from Sprint), but the one from XDA is a valid option.

How do you use that file? Do you have to download it on your phone or can you download it to your computer then transfer it to the phone?

Yes. Just download to your phone. Once it's downloaded, open the file (you can even click on the download directly from the notification bar).

If you're not comfortable doing that, then only option would be to wait for the official one to push to the phone, or keep checking to see if you get a refreshed update manually through the settings.

Dang! Just bought two Photons this week, one for myself and one for my wife. Mine updated just fine, but hers is stuck on 154_6 which means she and I can't test out the gTalk video chat which she's excited about. I guess we'll wait...

The update was release over 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I brought my phone to the Sprint repair store, they could not update either. They are replacing my phone.

Ugh, I dont want to go through yet another Photon just so I can update :( I just got a brand new Photon 2-3 weeks ago (right before this update came out) due to my power button falling off.

Meh. Will the next update take place of this one? Meaning I can maybe skip this one that wont install correctly? Or will I ultimately have to get yet another phone?
