OTA firmware update today

Anybody received an OTA Firmware update today? (I live in the UK).
It says it is for "improved stability" and is 42.34mb. I am currently running Jellybean 4.1.2 which I updated to two months ago through Kies.

REALLY?! They potentially patched the bugs?? If that's the case I'll reflash my old MC8 So I'm back on my regions firmware and maybe it will run at least as good as Russian MG2! :D

Can anybody else confirm this?? I'll probably reflash BTU MC8 anyway just to experiment as i have plenty of time on my hands but it would be nice to get a heads up anyway.

I'll check out sammobile as well as if it's an actually new firmware revision then it should show on there.

42.34MB seems a little small though. You sure it wasn't for a Samsung app or something and not an actual firmware update? Either way. I'ma go play! :D

**update**

Just confirmed on Sammobile. BTU Jelly Bean has changed to MF1. They've patched the bugs! I'ma reflash MC8 then update from there methinks (Kies or OTA). Shows I should've just been patient I guess. :$

w000000000t!!

p.s. You may wonder why I'm not just flashing the new MF1 directly and saving time/trouble. To that I answer "because I love to play!" You're more than welcome to question my sanity for that. :p

Got the update about a hour ago,Dont know whats different seems to run the same,At the end of the setup a message pops up saying updating stability of apps and it runs through the apps to make them run better.

You didn't factory reset so you probably aren't feeling the full benefit from the firmware update. It should remove the streaming video lag and possibly some UI lag. That's what I'm guessing as those were the only stability issues with MC8.

No i didn't factory reset as it never said to,But i never had any problems with my one,When i got the phone it allready came with Jellybean 4.1.2.

Seriously. You never experienced any lag whatsoever or problems with streaming video? o.0

Were you running stock settings? If so maybe it's to do with your usage. Maybe you're a light user or only do certain things with your phone. Either way you got extremely lucky not to run into any issues.

On a side note, it wouldn't have told you to factory reset but it's often worth doing after a firmware upgrade/update. That being said, if you're having zero problems then you're fine as you are. Hell, you probably didn't even need the update in that case you lucky SOB :p

Hey people, glad to see some responses, hope me bringing it to your attention helped. :) I haven't actually installed the firmware myself yet, despite JB having been so buggy for me because I've never flashed Roms or anything so wouldn't know how to fix it like some of you would if it made things worse somehow. The reason is I was worried they might have brought back the fully-charged battery beep/vibrate that this phone had when running Gingerbread. This didn't bother most people but I'm a light sleeper and charged my phone at night by my bedside!

I don't have any reason to believe that they have brought back the buzz/beep, especially as it's not some big OS change like JB was, I'm just being VERY cautious because before the JB update fixed it I was thinking of selling the phone purely because of the un-turnoffable beep/vibrate!

Could anybody who has installed the firmware be so kind as to fully charge their phone and see if there's an annoying buzz/beep? :) (Or obviously say if you notice any other bad things about the update).

Yeah, they're lucky. :| Even though I did do a hard reset after upgrading to JB my phone restarts itself a LOT, which none of my other Android phones (bad as they were) did. YouTube is the main cause of crashes so I hope this fixes that! I kinda assumed that the phone's hardware (and lack of space as I guessed maybe JB took up more space) just wasn't good enough for JB to run smoothly after installing a fair amount of apps. Maybe it was just bad programming though and this will fix!

You're more skilled at googlefu than me, I couldn't find any info on this update!

Ive only had the phone for a couple of weeks so yes ive not got much on it yet,The phone came from carphone warehouse with jeallybean allready on it,The seal on the box had not been broken so i can only assume it was samsung who was sending the Ace 2 out with jellybean and not carphone warehouse doing it manually. When the phone was doing its stuff it did turn the phone off and then on but all the settings were the same.

Thanks :)

I would have thought the beep was a good idea if you could set it not to go off during certain (sleeping) hours! I'm fine with saving energy, or just being notified in case you've decided to leave the house once your phone is fully charged or something but since it needs charging at least every 24hrs and I'm often out during the day it usually has to charge at night. I'm not energy conscious enough to want to wake up just so I can unplug it! :p I'm such a light sleeper >.> and my bedroom is really the only convenient place to charge it.

just put your phone on mute when you sleep. Even if you have an alarm set it will still sound :)

**update**

So I just reflashed MC8 and updated to MF1 via Kies (OTA has a queue, Kies is instant). Gonna factory reset after it's all booted up then i shall test the waters to make sure they fixed things. If they have then I'm happy. Only took them around three months to patch their shoddy firmware.

You don't NEED to but it's always recommended. Especially with an update that's supposed to fix stability.

Nope. :( Even on mute the phone still beeped and vibrated when it was fully charged. That's why there are apps on the Play market specifically to turn it off on Samsung phones. Unfortunately the apps aren't fully compatible with the GA2 and at most can turn off the beep; it still vibrated. I had to sleep with my phone place near my bed on a pillow so it didn't wake me up. >.>

You're right about the alarms still sounding on mute though. I've always had my phone set to mute during sleeping hours yet used it for my alarm clock. :)

really?? 0.0

You MUST be a light sleeper then. I've never had it wake me up while my phone's been on mute. That is something they need to fix though.

Ok so phone fully charged what use to happen was the display would light up,This time the display didn't come on.

But good news for quixoticduck as there was no sound either to say it was fully charged.

I am the lightest sleeper ever xD :|

But just to clarify, this was only on Gingerbread. They fixed it in the update to JB, so if you didn't use Gingerbread for long that might be why you've never noticed it.

I was just worried that this firmware might for some reason bring it back! Doubtful I know as it says it's just stability fixes, it would just be so bad if they have done thus me being paranoid!

Yussss. Thanks for letting me know. :) The screen coming on was a bit annoying too so good that that's gone? Also it shows that I wasn't being completely paranoid about them changing how the phone reacts to being fully charged!

Noticed any other differences?

The ram is increased to 624 which should help, other than that though i haven't noticed any other changes/improvements.
Actually just used Youtube app and i dont know if this is new to this update but deffo new to me,while you watch a vid if you press back the vid window goes to the bottem of the screen and you can search while its still playin, really cool imo.

Welp, Samsung restore has failed again to have anything in its databases despite me checking before reset that I've been set to backup everything this whole time. :(
