OTA firmware update today

I had posted about this update it seems before this thread was made, and I was very kindly given the link for it so here goes.

First thing I would like to say is like the opening post I had upgraded to Jelly Bean 4.1.2 through Samsung Kies approx 6-7 weeks ago, and like has been mentioned here I got the software update message of which I clicked on the small box for the scheduled updates in sequential order I think it said, it all took around 15 mins approx to install etc.

My question though is when I clicked on my yahoo mail notification thread link which contained links to this thread plus my original thread a message appeared saying that there was an app for this forum, and as I already have the app installed on my phone I clicked on OK, it then took me to my Google Play Store for the app, the options were open and un-install, so obviously I took the open option, once I clicked on to open it took me to the blue screen for the opening of the app like the one you will see when you initially sign into it, but the problem was that it stayed like this for over a minute then a message at the bottom said that it couldn't connect, I tried this twice and no joy, when I tried a third time clicking from within the email notification link it then takes me to the web version and no option to open the app.

When I click on the forum app on it's own and also when I go to Google Play Store manually and open the app it opens no problems.

Is there a setting anywhere that makes sure that the app if on the phone will open when you click on an email link?

Is this a bug would you say as I always used to wonder if these apps should open automatically after clicking on a related link in email. I have the stock browser only on my phone.

Lastly I don't think my phone since I purchased it has ever taken me to an installed app after clicking on an email notification link, I thought this update had fixed this but if the app doesn't open then what's the point.

EDIT,

It seems that the phone notification takes you right to the app, it was the yahoo email app links that didn't appear to open the app correctly.

Maybe I should change my email to Google instead for my notifications as the issue may be with the yahoo mail app rather than anything else.

My Youtube app still crashed >.< I'm going to do a hard reset.

My youtube app appears to work fine at present.

Coincidence. The MF1 update clears all the bugs right up. I had to root my phone, tweak with Andromizer, and install Nova Launcher before the update to get this kind of performance.

Any one notice if their phone is using more ram since this last update?
Im sure the apps are using more ram since update, I have 81 apps installed and before update with 550 ram, when id check ram usage it was normally about 450-490 used or there abouts, now after the update with 624 ram the usage is 530-560 approx,im gona keep an eye on it and if i feel like more ram is being used ill factory reset and go from there.
Other than that though im loving the phone defo feels faster, id be interested in finding out exactly what changes the update made.

That's normal. The system's designed to make the most of the RAM you have. You'll still have enough to spare, trust me.

I only have 7 apps installed at present, 3 of which are on the USB storage (internal SD card) and my RAM was sitting at 494 out of 624

I stand corrected in all I said regarding MF1. Interface is slightly smoother in general, RAM has increased but the youtube/streaming video issue is still there. Only had it occur once though and normally it runs fine, so maybe it's mildly improved but not fixed.

I'm starting to think it maybe IS the phone as I can't imagine Samsung are this incompetent. That being said, on my next upgrade (in 2015) I'm either getting a HTC, grabbing a Nexus if on contract or moving to iPhone. Having a device that works flawlessly with the software would certainly be a much needed boon.

Again though, the issue isn't huge. I've only been forced to restart once while using it.

I haven't had any such issues yet, and when I get the phone notification it takes me right into the app thread, so I will wait for this rather than the Email notification.

Youtube still working with no issues touch wood, :)

Having updated to MF1 on my phone:

First thing, at the moment my phone is no longer laggy - hooray
Second thing, the signal reception seemed to be very poor inside the house after updating to MC8 but now is much better with MF1 - but have only been monitoring for 24 hours or so.

Ya, the modems also been updated so it makes sense for signal to be improved. MF1 is definitely an improvement, but they've still got a little ways to go.

Those that upgraded, did any of you click on the small box that was for Scheduled Upgrades? I noticed that for the initial message that informed us about the software update that there was a little box, and I believe it to be how the updates either download or install in sequence, anyone know anything about this?

I clicked on that box and then I clicked on install, then it went through the percentage stages with the green android on screen.

Another thing, was it normal to have automatically downloaded as I can't remember clicking on anything while I was out, I postponed it for 3 hours, so perhaps it automatically downloaded after that period had passed, and all I then had to do was install it.

It's quite possible if you were connected to WiFi as downloads from the OTA service seem to happen sequentially. If there are too many downloading then it'll force you to try again later. It probably automatically downloads the update while connected to WiFi and then just prompts you to install. Would be my guess anyway.

I wonder what difference it would have made if I hadn't clicked on that little scheduled updates box.

I actually think it downloaded on the packet data as I wasn't connected to Wi-Fi when I got the message, but as you say it could have downloaded in the background unknowing on my Wi-Fi before I went out and lost Wi-Fi home connection.

Actually come to think of it I have it set to download through Wi-Fi only, so you could be well correct on that.

On the issue of battery full alert tone, I still don't get any alert when the battery is fully charged, what I do receive is the notification at the top of the screen, and if the phone is on idle it then lights up for some seconds then goes back to idle again, not too bother about that though, just though I'd mention it.

Dont think i need to do a reset,But looking at the phone reset it doesn't mean you will loose everything because you can have the back up sent to your gmail account,Is that right?

There are numerous options to back up important data. You may will lose apps and any game save data though (the apps can easily be reinstalled).

Is it really necessary to reset your phone though? I haven't been required to do so as yet...fingers crossed.

I just got the phone back from `repair` with this new update and all seems to be working a lot better than it was.

You're just lucky is all. Maybe it's that "fresh from repairs" thing. After a while using I've realised the MF1 BTU update is, if anything, worse than MC8. It lags frequently now and tweaks don't really seem to help it anymore.

I'm planning on reverting back to the Russian MG2 as that is, afaik for now, the most stable JB firmware on the device.

Seriously though. Samsung really done goofed with this one.

Mine now seems to be a bit slow on running things,And i dont have much on the phone,When i say slow it seeems slow when im pressing the back button feels like it freezes for a second or two.

As I previously mentioned in another thread, I've moved back to Gingerbread and the difference is enormous. Perfectly stable and pretty fast too. There are minor shortcomings but they're extremely minor and I can deal with them until the JB firmware becomes stable.
