Help OTA update 2.3.6 killed my phone

I checked the software update section on the phone and it said an update was available, started the process and it seemed to install and reboot ok.

Once the phone finished and got back up and running it was showing the symbol for no network connection (circle with line through it) and it doesnt seem to recognise that it has a SIM installed.

Baseband version is showing as "unknown" and if i try to choose the network under "mobile networks" it tells me to insert sim card.

I tried to get the IMEI code by dialing *#06# and it simply returnes "IMEI" with no numbers and an "OK" button.

I tried flashing stock firmware using ODIN and that seemed to go ok, but still the exact same problem.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this? I'm googling madly right now and the main solution im seeing is that i need to restore a backed up efs file...the thing is because i wasnt rooting or messing with the phone, just doing an official ota update ive never done gone into the file structure or backed any of it up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
 
That sounds like your efs folder had been deleted. Unfortunately there's no way to sort it unless you were rooted and backed up the folder yourself. Since the problem was caused by an OTA update you should have no problem getting it sorted under warranty.
 
Yeah, further searching basically came to the same conclusion, so i've given it back to the telco to send off to get fixed.

Only thing im concerned about is if they try to say that its not covered by warranty because i flashed a stock rom after the OTA update failed.
