Help OTA Update and tethering

Well-Known Member
I took the OTA update this morning. I am rooted on the stock ROM. So far I think I am still rooted as I am able to see SDCard0 and SDCard1 in file manager, but the OTA killed the ability to use the WiFi Tether app. Is there another app, or are there settings I need to re adjust to be able to use WiFi Tether?

There are other apps in the play store. I have only used PDA net and foxfi. It's now combined into PDA net +. It has worked for me on phones that didn't have the option so I would try it in your case. Preferable I would get rid of stock and go with the awe inspired ROM. Cm11 is also great to use in the future once tethering is fixed. Hope this helps.

This update just appeared for me yesterday - I'm in Saudi Arabia right now too!

Phone is working perfectly well on WiFi here (when I can get signal) and have no need to do an update as far as I can tell.

Is there an easy way to stop the notification?

I'm rooted and on the stock ROM.

I do not know whether there is a way to permanently hide the notification.

I ran Root Checker Basic, and apparently it unrooted me at least partially. I tried getting root via Impactor, and it was a no go. Tried motochopper with no joy. Got it rooted using Kingo.

WiFi Tether, PDA Net+, and WiFi Access Point widget do NOT work for WiFi tethering. Not being able to use my phone as a hotspot is a deal-breaker for me, and as soon as I can afford to buy a new phone, I will be jumping ship over to T-Mobile.

Was just wondering why you guys that are having problems or want to get rid of the notification don't get rid of stock and use AWE Inspired rom 2.9. There is a flashable zip in the thread for the rom called ota fix.zip. As far as installing a recover and the rom it's not much to read or hard to do. There is a thread that is a all in one guide. I would just use twrp instead of cwm. I can only think you want to stay on stock because of the warranty. We have a way to go back to stock though so I don't see it as an issue.

There are a lot of threads in the All Things Root forum. Can you link me the thread with the awesome rom 2.9?

I got it working again. I had to go into the settings in the WiFi Tether app, and to "Change Setup Method" and click on the Netd-Ndc (master option), and check the "WiFi-driver reload" box.

Here is the link for AWE Inspired ROM 2.9 OTA FIX AT BOTTOM OF MY POST
There is instructions on how to install it from stock rom! Basiclly it's an all in one guide from stock. Great developers we have working on are phone.

Here is a link to a manual way and other info

[TUTORIAL]Revert to Stock from CWM recovery I recommend twrp instead of cwm.

This kitkat based CM11 rom is awesome but has broken teathering right now but once it is fixed I recommend using it.

[ROM][BETA][4.4.4] CyanogenMod 11 7/1/2014

Enjoy! If you really like the developers work please thank them (possible buy them a beer or something lol)

The first link is really all you need for now. oh and as far as the ota fix it's in the same thread but here is a direct link.

:D

Sorry about that. I must of overlooked that. I have changed it.

So to make sure I understand I understand you correctly. making this change will allow us to use wifi-tether on stock after the OTA update?
