Root OTA update question 2.3.340

I was wondering whats going to happen if I update OTA 2.3.340
Currently I'm: Rooted
Android Version: 2.2
system version: 2.3.15mb810
Rom: Tranquility 3.0

also In my file manager: clockworkrecovery-backup (I made 2 stock backups)1. stock rooted 2. stock rooted with some apps removed(apk changed to bak files)

So, will I lose Root?
Will I brick my phone?
Anything Im not sure about and need to know?

Can I just update no worries?
Do I need to go back to my "stock rooted rom (1 or 2 above)(does it matter)" then update? and root again? and install another rom?

Im not super tech savy so plain/basic english would be great in the responses.

Thanks in advance.

Assuming you didn't SBF to something newer, stock rooted (might want to clear cache and reset prior) should get you the ota.

Not used to seeing people with a stock backup.

After bricking my first dx in the first 3 days, I backup up every time I make a change.
No I didnt sbf, it came with 2.2 and the 2.3.15 came with the ROM.
The 2 stock backups would be odex, where as my current tranquility is deodex.

So I went back to stock rooted and updated.

As far as root goes some apps have it and some don't.
Root explorer does not.
Rom manager, boot strap does.

Any ideas on how to get root explorer workimg again?

I had to re-root after, but I was one of the early batch who got the OTA. I just re-rooted from z4root. My understanding is the later bunch wasn't able to root or at least not as easy.

I've had no luck with z4 at all so far.
first time i tried it right after install and it ended up freezing up, so I pulled the battery and rebooted.

second time after reboot, it kept sending me to the debugging setting.

so now, I've uninstalled, reinstalled and rebooted, and seems to work, its gone through its cycle and rebooted into recovery, and selected reboot, now were good to go.

thanks for all the help, now to back up and install a rom.

To clarify, to root you had to uninstall z4root, then reinstall it?

I like to use Rom Manager to backup/rename/manage backups. I like it b/c I can give an english name to my backup instead of a date/time. You just have to make sure you don't use spaces, colons, semicolons or other weird characters it won't like.

This is what my backups look like in RM:

i like rom manager also and rename my back ups also similar to yours.

I do have a quick question for you on a similar note.
Do you use astro file manager at all?
I noticed in it under (clockwork recovery-backups)
I have the file name but its not like a zip (opened box) just a regular file with 5 subdirectories in it.
The reason I ask is because, if i use boot strap togo into recovery to apply a backup, go to that folder it shows the back up by name but wont install stating theres nothing there.

So i have to be able to get to rom manager to install a backup. of course this isnt a big deal at hte moment but if the crap hit the fan and recovery is all I can get to then i cant install any back ups.

any ideas.

Sounds like you renamed a backup after it completed. (Is this correct?)

Yes, I have Astro, and if I navigate to a backup, I have 5 files there, 4 img's and 1 md5 checksum. That part sounds good.

You need to check the name of the backup from Rom Manager and make sure you didn't add spaces or other weird chars to the name.
