ota update rolling out now !!!!

I got Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0 yesteday because a friend told me it was a way of fixing signal issues. Initially I lost my data connection but that is fine now.

The main changes are the screen lock has shortcuts to a few apps including camera. Not so good changes for me are the way the icons on the home pages spin around before coming to a standstill after you unlock the screen. Also, the calendar has changed presntation and colours which I dont like. Email presentation is different and again not to my liking. SMS messaging now presents messages in bubbles like the Galaxy.

Overall I'm indifferent about it but my phone wasn't working as a phone (ie taking calls) before so I felt I had no option.

Am I the only one who has not got an update? i keep checking in the settings but it says I'm up to date, is it something to do with the phone being bought not locked to a network, who push the update, o2 or htC? I want my update!:mad:

My data allowance per month is only 2GB on mobile broadband and believe this download if I were ever to risk it is >250MB which is a no no in my books.:(.

I imagine so, yes. I'd want to know exactly what an update does before I commit to it that it does not corrupt my phone and cause a hassle with it.

well i should think the idea is to improve phone, not always the case from what i`m hearing but no way of knowing til you apply the update.h

Should not be a case of being a gamble though, think i`ll speak to Orange or HTC Cust Serv before i download it, if i ever get it

Official answer from HTC:

We expect to begin rolling out the Android 2.3.5 update for your phone very soon. Phones will receive updates countinuously , not at sigle day. We cannot be more specific yet as exact dates still need to be confirmed. You need to wait, you have done everything right.

I might have been prompted for an update on my phone and dismissed it without realising the importance. Is there a way to get it back again? I keep checking for an update every day but it keeps saying my phones up to date. I'm still on 2.3.3 (1.47.401.4) and need to update to the latest version as the sms delays are very annoying!! Do I need to enable wifi or connect it to my pc to get it to prompt for the download again?

Thanks

Rob

When I interrogate my phone ie. Settings/About Phone/Software updates etc. I am informed that there are two updates: these being FOTA v2.3 Client user interface 513KB and FOTA Scheduling Application v2.3 72KB.
Are these the significant updates everyone is talking about? What are these and are they 'safe' to download and what do they offer?

Received this update today on one of four identical phones on same network (T-mobile-Orange). All fine so far, although haven't been round it much to see the differences - weather app loads more noisy though and sms messages a bit more flashy in presentation. No idea why update requests on three other phones get response that they are up to date and no updates available. Strange. :confused:

@oztoon

Is your phone branded or unbranded? What's your current software number? Menu > Settings > About phone > Software Information

@notebook

By branded do you mean locked to a network? They are all on contract from and locked to T-Mobile.

The updated one is now on 2.10.401.8. Not sure what it was before.

Two of the others are 1.28.401.1 and one other on 1.47.401.4.

@oztoon

Did you get your phone and contract from a seller like 'e2save Mobile'?

The software versions you gave are all stock HTC ROMs, not branded ROMs. The earlier T-Mobile versions, before the Sense 3.0 update, were 1.30.110.2 and 1.47.110.3. From your information, I think your phone is unbranded (and may even be unlocked), which means those on branded T-Mobile phones will have to wait some more.

[Branded phones usually have network provider bloatware on the ROM, a splash screen with the network insignia on start-up, and their logo printed somewhere on the phone.]

@notebook

All our phones are from the same reseller. I think (they are all out the house now apart from mine) the two on 1.28.401.1 were bought about two months before mine (the one updated to 2.3.5/Sense 3.0) and the one currently on 1.47.401.4.

From what you say, I'd have thought that the two on 1.28.401.4 would have been T-Mobile versions, but there are no logos or network operator screens etc. on any of the sets and no branding.

Seems a bit inconsistent - not you, the phones ;)

I don't mind having to wait for this update for the others though, as it gives me a chance to see the pros and cons. And managing all four phones, updates, security etc. gets a bit time consuming, so I don't mind the odd break in between episodes :)

I'd echo what Spytek said about the delayed sms - ours were taking days in some cases! Didn't realise this update might help and will keep an eye on it, though not sure what good that will do until all our sets are updated.

Thanks
