I just got a notification from my Sprint feed app saying there is a new security update for the EVO 3d as of now!! I searched immediately no such luck anyone else?!? Apparently it will be pushed starting January 17th but your able to grab the update now via settings!?!?!

The HTC EVO 3D is getting an update right now! No it’s not Ice Cream Sandwich, but it is something important. Software version 2.17.651.5 improves battery life, fixes Peep and brings a needed security update to Sprint’s lone 3D handset. You can grab the update now via your phone’s settings, or wait for the software push, which starts on January 17th. Like most Sprint software updates, this update will roll out over a period of time. If you’ve already grabbed the update, please let us know how it’s treating you.

Remember if you may think about rooting, don't take any updates until you know it is safe. ;)

I'd consider removing CIQ a 'Security Update'. And that's probably what the CIQ removal is disguised as. Why upset their users who are oblivious to CIQ by acknowledging that CIQ exists in the patch notes.

Personally, I don't care what Sprint calls it, just as long as it's removed.

Still nothing :( :( and Sprint feed just like phandroid is usually accurate right on the money I did a battery pull updated prl profile etc... And nothing yet anyone else having any luck!?!?
 
I would wait until the 17th before checking your update status every 5 minutes. :)

I'd also bet that the roll out would be selected randomly according to customer account number or other similar factors, like premiere status, # of years with Sprint, and activity more so than geological location :) More likely to distribute server load that way.
 
Update is downloading now. Using my speedy 3g connection and getting a massive 100kbps. I love how awesome Wichita, KS is for 3G. i hope the battery improvements are noticeable. While my battery life isn't TERRIBLE, with the bluetooth turned on, having access to a power outlet or a second battery is absolutely necessary.
 
Got it here in TX. CIQ is gone from what I can tell (or hidden in another name). Seems a little snappier, but it may just be me. I've had it plugged in since the update, so no word on battery life.
 
Got it in Chicago.

Did anyone notice the update bar changed from green and rounded to a blue and squared ICS theme towards the end of the install?

My body is so ready.
 
Just got the updated. It definitely looks like Carrier IQ is gone.

But I noticed new service that I didn't see before: Smith.
Does anybody know what kind of service is this?
