OTA updates on unlocked, unbranded A8181

My Desire A8181 is still running Android 2.2 build 2.09.405.8 CL218634 release-keys that was installed on it when I bought it. I've been offered an OTA update every time the phone checks for them and it's always the same (25.06 MB) one from HTC. No version or revision number is given but it has the following features:

- Android OS update patch
- Improved RUS keyboard layout

I haven't updated to this version as I tend to go by the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" rule, unless there is a significant advantage to updating.

Having seen plenty of threads about updates with later revision numbers (e.g. 2.29.405.5), it's beginning to look like I can't get any later update unless I first install this current update. Is this true?

OTA updates are not cumulative, but incremental, meaning, in order to get 2.29.405.5, you need to update to 2.29.405.2 first.

Ok, thanks. Now I'm wondering what wonderful improvements I can expect if I go through all of the available updates, having seen other people's problems with WiFi and GPS not working... ;-)

As far as I know the only people to face problems with Wi-Fi , GPS etc. were those with debranded handsets and not using their goldcard while updating. I've got a stock Desire and never had any problems with the updates.
